be present on these diskette(s) are addendums to the hard cover printed
manual(s).

ÄCLEARANCE(tm) System Generation.
* It is never necessary to erase previously installed files for an update....
* The system will not load to a completely blank disc...
NOTE:
d = any floppy D = D drive E = E drive .....etc.
{target drive} = disc home of Clearance software (must not be empty).
The following files should be in the root directory of your hard drive.

See your dealer if not present.

One Floppy Disk
One Dot Matrix Printer....Epson (fx) compatible
3.5 Megs avail fixed disc storage....8.5 Megs for complete system
DOS 3.0 or better...A complete functioning DOS must be installed.
1) Set the primary floppy drive to d:\> as each diskette is installed.
2) Install all diskettes with the same procedure:
d:\>INSTALL {target drive} [Enter]
e.g., INSTALL D or INSTALL C (no colon)
C:\>d:INSTALL C...........(Wrong)
3)
PASSWORD = Required for audits.
OWNER = Appears on all print-outs.
ELEVATION = Default airport for Aircraft performance.
ZULU = Zulu time your location for Weather down-loads.
4) Do not remove diskette until a return to the DOS system occurs.
5) From the DOS prompt type:
C:\>FBO [Enter]

7) The system is self-starting......thereafter:
C:\>FBO [Enter]
8) If you have had a failure during install....type FBOZ RESET....after you
have a successful install. Also, if you are updating your system after an
extended period of no updates....FBOZ RESET may be necessary to update to
new formats.

COMMENTARY
**********
1) The system sets up its own sub-directories and loads all programs automat-
ically. The less you do.....the better. Do not copy these diskettes into a
sub-directory. The "Installer" looks at the file date(s). The "newer" file
will take precedence. Make sure your calendar clock is correct...and do
not change/modify files which you want up-dated.
2) Seven (7) batch files will be placed in the Root directory:
FBO / FBO$ / FBO! / FBOHELP / FBOZ / FBO_ASGN / MODEL
These may be moved. See the manual for instructions. Do not move any other
programs.....or rename.
3) Loading & linking of additional diskettes is automatic; and all load the
same way.
4) User `HOT-LINE`: (206) - 838 - 4181
5) Data-bases are up-dated every 56 days.....and are provided to users under
the terms of a separate maintenance agreement automatically...unless cance-
lled. Users are cautioned not to use the Clearance flight plan solutions
if the data-bases are out-dated.
6) First time pilot users are cautioned that this system will not be learned
in a day. Its virtue is not how fast you get to use it....but how well you
learn to use it. It is a large, totally comprehensive system which eventu-
ally will do more for you, than you dreamed possible on a PC. It is a mar-
velous teaching tool......and will inspire you to want to learn more about
avaition and navigation. Your patience will be rewarded.
8) If you do not have enough room on the hard drive...the system may create
a `null` file....without loading that module...depending on your version
of DOS. CONFIG.SYS should specify at least BUFFERS = 20 & FILES = 20.
Check your PATH statement in AUTOEXEC.BAT. It should lead to DOS.
9) -
0) A MASTER airport diskette is available which makes 9000 airports
addressable as waypoints. Load AFD's & Runway diagrams after the MASTER.
1) When diskettes are provided in the low density 360k format, if your computer
reads or writes in another density, please copy the 360k diskettes, to
diskettes compatible with your system...and install from those. This is
just good practice.
2) Run at least one plan via Flight Plan Option -K- / -J- before attempting
other options.
3) This system is time sensitive.....please set Date correctly...EACH USE.
4) The following resident programs have been identified as causing trouble:
a)Sidekick b)Novell's ANET c)10NET d)QDOS e)ProKey
Please turn these off before installing/running Clearance. Also, exit
Windows to DOS prompt for best performance.
5) The system likes to have the printer on at all times.
6) If the system is to be operated on a network....all user terminals must
must have same graphic resolution.
7) Some diskettes change the system path...then reset it. If the install is
aborted....reset your computer to re-establish the proper path.
8) If you wish to abort an Install...strike [Ctrl-Break] or [Ctrl-C]
9) Only DISKCOPY works for backups.
0) TCA graphing support has been suspended.
1) Airport Index print has been suspended.
2) HD diskettes may be devoid of ATC Preferred, Low Altitude Alert, W&B and
TCA Alert.
3) "STALE DATA" will flash until the next system reset (FBOZ RESET).
4) "Refresh Winds" will flash until a complete valid download from a
Data-Plane Weather vendor is accomplished (i.e., non-DUAT).
5) If you fly an airplane that is not in our library, you are best advised
to send the W & B section of the aircraft to Data-Plane....who will
produce the "Performance" file for you, for a nominal charge of $75.
It is a tedious job at best; and we are best equipped to do the job
with the software at hand....with which we are quite familiar.
6) All diskettes have an "IDENTIFY" file. The date of this file tells when
the diskette was prepared. Serial numbers are unreliable.
7) Fuel Burn is computed only if the Tail Number matches the aircraft
processed in a QLOAD; or Weight & Balance.
8) Queries/Searches on "City" names is ambiguous because the FAA keeps
changing the spelling. For instance, "Fort Lauderdale" is sometimes
FT. Lauderdale.....etc. Try searches both or more ways.
9) Chartmaker graphics uses a different scale in the Overview for appearances.
0) PC math is essentially an emulation......Therefore solutions are often
corrupted by rounding errors. For instance, Magnetic Variation(s) may
be off by as much as 2 degrees; and DME mileages and Lat-Lon positions
may be off by as much as (+/-) 1%
1) DTF DUAT winds will be captured and will print...but due to their non
standard format, the Winds Aloft database will not be updated. Once
printed the winds can be entered manually.
2) Don't forget to delete the Duat Log's from time to time.
3) LAZER etc. printers require an EPSOM emulator. We recommend `LazerControl'
by Insight Developments of San Francisco...1-800-825-4115. Daisy wheel
printers like DIABLO & QUME may also be operated by `LazerControl`.
Mention Data-Plane and you will receive a discount.
4) If we don't have an airport or fix....which you need for your flying...let
us know and we'll include it. We'll custom design the database(s) to suit
your flying needs.
5) Low powered navaids in Canada will appear in the Runway Vector program, but
will not be available for navagation. Only those Navaids available for
navagation can be displayed.
6) To repeat Name / Certificate # / Tail # from the Main menu, enter foward
slash (/). Your Name, etc., will not be burned in until the system executes
a valid flight plan or a valid W&B.
7) Before a Tail # is connected to an A/C Type...the user must load that A/C
correctly as a first exercise. Any valid load will do. This prevents a
user from assuming he is flying the wrong aircraft. Eg., a B-58 does not
equal a B-58P. They are different aircraft.
Quick Load overrides this restriction.
8) LOCATOR requires "%" for an airport id; e.g., %LAX
9) The new Weather Station allows for direct-live (800) access to World
Weather Watch (TABS). Call for your copy now.
0) Option <G> of the Flight Plan Menu allows override of parameters entered
via W&B or QLOAD. E.g., Fuel load is initialized from the last Qload or
W&B. Option <G> allows you change the fuel load for one session.
1) If you have not received an update since November 1992, your Pooled
routes may be erased to accomodate a new more compressed format.
Regular subscribers please ignore this item.
2) Network users who have a variety of graphic set-ups will appreciate the
Graphic <R>eset function. This allows users to select a graphic generic
to their particular remote monitor.
3) Periodically print the History file via Audit [F8] of the Main Menu;
and purge said file....to save space on the disc.
