This is an attempt to make a model of a DE HAVILLAND DHC-5 BUFFALO.
The original aeroplane comes from Canada and was named Caribou II
at first.
The Buffalo has a three men crew and is mainly used for transport.
Maximum payload is not known to me but as far as I have seen it
will carry about forty people, and should be able to carry jeep-
size vehicles according to the size of the cargo bay doors.
The AAF file was made from crude drawings and a very unsharp picture
showing two Buffalo's in formation.
The aircraft has STOL capability which is the reason for this
aircraft being in use with many thrid world countries.
It should be still in use with the following countries :
Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Ecuador, Egypt, Kenya, Mauretania,
Peru, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, United Arab Emirates,
Zaire, Zambia.
The flight model should be reasonably accurate for a twin turboprop
machine this size.
I have tried to simulate a loaded aircraft, take off speed is around 90
knots and V-stall is around 70 knots with full flaps.
Flight is quite stable unless really rough pilots have a go with it.
Source for the flight model was the Beech Starship with a lot of changes
made to it.
The design itself was just a matter of trial and error, but except from the
correct grouping of items in the different paint groups and the orientation
of insignia, no great difficulties were encountered.
I just wish that BAO would have thought of some more special effects, or
combinations of them.
Marc Peters.
