  27. What's in the distribution?

  29. This distribution contains Glide, Glide3, Direct3D(r) drivers for 
  30. Voodoo2 Based 3D Accelerators and the Voodoo2 Control Panel Applet.

  32. The DirectDraw portion of the drivers supports Direct3D 
  33. when using DirectX 7.0
  34.  
  35. NOTE: DirectX 7.0 redistributable files should be used with these 
  36. drivers!

  76. - Windows 95 or Windows 98
  77. - PC with an Intel(r), AMD(r) or, Cyrix(r) based processor
  78. - One free PCI slot (or two free PCI slots for SLI)
  79. - 16MB of RAM or more Suggested

  82. Installation
  83. ------------
  84. The installation below can vary depending on which version of Windows
  85. is installed.  To determine the Windows 95 version click Start, 
  86. Settings, Control Panel. Double-click on the system icon. If the 
  87. Windows version is 4.00.950b, Windows 95 OEM SR2 is running.

  90. Existing Drivers Installed or PCI Multimedia Device shown in Device Mgr
  91. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  92. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  93.  
  94. 2) Open Device Manager (Start, Settings, Control Panel, System)
  95.  
  96. 3) Locate the existing reference to the card it will be listed as:
  97.  
  98.        Reference Card: Other Devices / PCI Multimedia Device or
  99.                Sound, Video, Game Controllers / Voodoo2
  100.  
  101.    NOTE: In an SLI configiration (2 Voodoo2 cards) you only need to
  102.    select one card to update.

  104. 4) Double Click on the card, then click the driver Tab
  105.  
  106.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Click "Change Driver" and choose
  107.                                         "Have Disk"
  108.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  109.                                         the Next Button.  Click "Other
  110.                                         Locations" 
  111.                       Windows 98 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  112.                                         the Next Button twice on the
  113.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  114.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  115.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  116.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.

  118. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  119.    OK.  
  120.  
  121.      Windows Standard Release 95 users: Select "Voodoo2 3D Accelerator" 
  122.                                         from the List and click OK.
  123.                                         Click OK again to save changes in
  124.                                         Device Manager.
  125.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 Users: Click on Finish to continue.
  126.                       Windows 98 users: Click on Next to continue.

  128. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  129.    Disk.  Again, point to the path you extracted the files to and press OK.

  131. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  132.  
  133. 8) Install DirectX 6.1 (If not already installed)

  137. No Current Drivers Installed (Single Board and SLI)
  138. ---------------------------------------------------

  140. Single Board
  141. ============
  142.  
  143. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  144.  
  145. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  146.    3D board into a PCI slot. 
  147.  
  148. 3) Restart Windows after hardware installation.
  149.  
  150. 4) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  151.  
  152.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  153.                                         and click OK
  154.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  155.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  156.                                         "Other Locations"
  157.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  158.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  159.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  160.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  161.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.

  163. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  164.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)

  166. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  167.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.

  169. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted

  174. SLI (Two Voodoo2 Boards with SLI cable)
  175. =======================================
  176.  
  177. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  178.  
  179. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  180.    3D boards into PCI slots next to each other
  181.  
  182. 3) Connect the SLI cable to both boards.
  183.  
  184. 4) Restart the system and Windows after hardware installation.
  185.  
  186. 5) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  187.  
  188.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  189.                                         and click OK
  190.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  191.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  192.                                         "Other Locations"
  193.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  194.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  195.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  196.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  197.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.

  199. 6) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  200.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)

  202. 7) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  203.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.
  204.  
  205. 8) Windows will copy the drivers. When prompted to reboot the system, 
  206.    click No. You may be asked to reboot several more times. Manually 
  207.    restart the system by clicking Start, Shutdown and Restart.

  209. 9) Install DirectX 6.1  (If not already installed)

  213. Troubleshooting
  214. ---------------
  215. Problem: After installing this driver, the Control panel applet I had
  216. for a Voodoo Graphics card is gone.
  217.  
  218. Resolution: The Voodoo2 drivers will uninstall *ANY* Voodoo Graphics 
  219. drivers.  This is to ensure only Voodoo2 drivers are on the system.
  220.  
  221.  
  222. Problem: After upgrading Voodoo Graphics to Voodoo2, old Glide games 
  223. that worked before are not working now.
  224.  
  225. Resolution: Make Voodoo2 backwards compatable with Voodoo Graphics by 
  226. adding environment variables with V2-auto.inf.  Using Windows Explore 
  227. and find V2-auto.inf in directory were zip file was extracted.  Right 
  228. click V2-auto.inf and select Install from pop-up menu.  Reboot system.
  229. This will update the Autoexec.bat file with environment variables. 
  230. Uninstall will not remove the lines from Autoexec.bat

  233. OpenGL(r) ICD: Known Limitations
  234. ----------------------------------
  235. The OpenGL ICD included with this kit is meant for use with OpenGL based 
  236. games only. It may not be compatible with other applications that use the 
  237. OpenGL API for 3D rendering support.
