  18. 0. What is DropIt ?!?
  19. =====================

  21. DropIt is an easy-use program launcher for your Windows desktop.
  22. It supports Drag&Drop and you can define different parameters.
  23.  
  24. You know that problem:
  25.  
  26.   * The calculator, the calendar, the clock, the ZIP-Tool - these are
  27.     all programs you need everyday. And everyday you must do the same:
  28.     Open Program-Manager groups, search the icon and double-click the
  29.     icon.

  31.   * You are often working with Filemanager. And you doesn't link any
  32.     extension with a specified program. You wan't to see the file
  33.     only with Notepad or Write.

  35. Now you have DropIt to do this things easier:

  37.   * You start your small apps easy from a iconbar, easy per mouse-click!
  38.     Fast and efficient!

  40.   * You can drop any file on an icon of DropIt. DropIt launchs the program
  41.     WITH the file!

  55. 1. Working with DropIt
  56. ===================

  58. >> 1.1 Installation

  61.  * You get following files in a package of DropIt:

  63.      DROPIT.EX_    --> The program file for Windows 95/NT
  64.      DROPIT.DO_    --> This file
  65.      REGISTER.DO_  --> Registration documentation
  66.      DROPIT.HT_    --> DOC file in HTML format
  67.      INSTALL.EXE   --> The installation program
  68.  
  69.  * Startup the installation program INSTALL.EXE and follow the introductions.
  70.  
  71.  * Install the File DROPIT.EXE in a group of your choice. See Windows
  72.    documentation for more informations.

  74. >> 1.2 DropIt - User Interface Description

  77.   >>> 1.2.1 Add new applications

  79.     * Click with right mouse button on an icon.
  80.     * Pick a filename in the dialog box and click on the button "Open".

  82.     * Now you will see a dialog box "Enter parameters". Click "OK" to
  83.       continue.

  85.       - These parameters were placed after program's name if you start the
  86.         application. For example: You want to start the app "CALENDAR.EXE"
  87.         with a file named "USER.CAL". To do this enter as parameter
  88.         in the dialog box "USER.CAL".

  90.     * Enter parameters again in the following dialog box. Click "OK" to
  91.       continue.
  92.  
  93.       - These parameters were placed after program's name, but before the
  94.         filename if you drop a file. For example: You want to start the
  95.         app "WSCAN.EXE" with the parameter "/LOAD <DROPFILE>". To do this
  96.         enter as parameter in the dialog box "/LOAD".

  98.      * Now the new icon or a common icon for DOS programs will appear.

  100.   >>> 1.2.2 Start an application

  102.      * Click with the left mouse button on an icon. The program starts with
  103.        the specified parameters.

  105.      OR

  107.      * Drop any file from an Drag&Drop-Server like Filemanager or Explorer
  108.        or anything else to an icon in the DropIt window. The application
  109.        start with the specified DROP parameters (see 2.2.1) and the dropped
  110.        file. If you drop more than one file the first is used.

  112.   >>> 1.2.3 Change number of icons

  114.      * Click in the menu "DropIt" on the item "Preferences".
  115.  
  116.      * A dialog box will appear.
  117.  
  118.      * Enter the number of icons you want to show on screen. NOTE: If the
  119.        number of icons more than 255, DropIt uses automatically 5 icons
  120.        instead. Windows sets the size of the DropIt window automatically
  121.        if the number of icons more than the number of icons
  122.        there can be placed on the Windows desktop.

  126.      * To set the DropIt window always on top (useful while fullsize windows
  127.        are in use), click in the menu "DropIt" on the item "Always on top".
