  25. DESCRIPTION:
  26. Send and Receive fax from Single computer or Network. FaxMail will add a
  27. [FaxBar] to your Windows Programs, giving you access to all the FaxModems
  28. and FaxMachines in the world, making them become your printers. FaxMail
  29. attaches itself to and becomes a part of the actual Microsoft Windows
  30. environment, thereby adding its features to all Windows Applications.
  31. FaxMail has hundreds of useful features such as Dynamic View/Edit Cover
  32. Page, FaxBook Import/Export, Windows Dynamic All Class FaxModem Driver,
  33. and Technical Support. You can import up to 1000 name and phone numbers
  34. into each FaxBook (Phone Book) at a time from any xBase data base program,
  35. and you can have as many FaxBooks as you want. FaxMail gives you laser
  36. quality fax output, making it a great tool to send an occasional fax or
  37. large numbers of high quality faxes from the background while you work on
  38. other tasks. FaxMail bundles the most useful fax features, and it is fast!
  39. The simplicity of information transfer via FaxMail Network for Windows is
  40. unequaled. It is a faxmail management system, integrating FaxModem
  41. technologies into computer document generation. You can create very short
  42. and/or long faxes. FaxMail supports Microsoft Windows
  43. 95/98/ME/NT/2000/Win32s. Supports most FaxModems, Group 3 CLASS 1, CLASS 2
  44. and CLASS 2.0.

  46. NETWORK USERS:
  47. Workstation 1 must have a modem and access to the root of a common server
  48. drive. All other workstations must have access to the root of that same
  49. common server drive. Workstation 1 receives all fax and can route them to
  50. the in-boxes of the other workstations. All workstations put their
  51. outgoing faxes in the queue of workstation 1.

  134. LIMITATIONS:
  135. FaxMail Network for Windows is shareware, which means you get to try out
  136. the software before you buy it. If you want to continue using the software
  137. after 30 days of trying it, you must purchase it by registering. While
  138. unregistered, you will only be able to send to a maximum of 3 recipients
  139. in each batch send. After you register [FaxMail Network for Windows] with
  140. ElectraSoft, you will be able to send up to 999 at a time.

  142. BEFORE ALL ELSE:
  143. We are working full time on improving and upgrading FaxMail Network for
  144. Windows based upon the feedback from you and other users. So...before you
  145. install, look at the date on this file. If the date is more than a week
  146. old, you may want to get the latest version.

  149. Sites around the world. fax_n929.zip, where fax_n929 means version

  160. LEGAL INFORMATION:
  161. If you have a Registration Code for FaxMail Network for Windows you may
  162. *NOT* share it with others.

  164. FaxMail Network for Windows is shareware. This means you have a chance to
  165. test the performance of FaxMail Network for Windows before committing
  166. yourself to buying it. FaxMail Network for Windows is a Shareware product
  167. and we would like you to REGISTER after testing this 30 day evaluation
  168. copy.

  170. Only the unregistered version of FaxMail Network for Windows may be
  171. distributed freely, and no fee may be charged for it except a nominal
  172. copying fee. All trademarks contained herein are registered to their
  173. respective owners.

  176. IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
  177. While converting printer output to a fax, FaxMail will need to create and
  178. use a temporary file called [TOFAX] and then delete it when finished. This
  179. file will be in the root of the drive FaxMail is installed on.
  180.  
  181. So that ElectraSoft Print to Fax will be able to convert printable files
  182. to faxes, you may want to check the following three things on the drive
  183. that you installed FaxMail on:
  184.  
  185.  1. If you have the maximum allowed files in that root directory, remove
  186.     some.
  187.  
  188.  2. If you have a directory called TOFAX on that drive, remove it.
  189.  
  190.  3. If that drive is full, make some room. The fax converter needs
  191.     about 200k per page. Keep in mind that Windows itself may need
  192.     5meg+- free on the hard drive.
  193.  
  194. If you are currently using another Modem-Program, remember that they can
  195. not run concurrently on the same COM-Port. Disabling a fax program may
  196. be as easy as not loading it or you may have to remove one or more lines
  197. from your AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, WIN.INI or SYSTEM.INI. Typing rem
  198. ahead of a line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS will disable it.

  206. To disable a line in an *.INI (WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI) file, place a ;
  207. before the line to be commented-out. Example:

  214. If your old Fax Program loads from the Windows StartUp Group as you enter
  215. Windows, you will have to move it's ICON out of your Windows StartUp Group
  216. by grabbing it and dropping it in another Group.

  219. INSTALLATION:
  220. If you have http://www.ElectraSoft.com/fmnfax.exe - fmnfax.exe:
  221. Run fmnfax.exe.

  224. Make a temporary directory or folder called FMNWTMP. UnZIP fmn.zip into
  225. FMNWTMP Use the Windows run command to run install.exe.

  231.   Single computer with no network:
  232.    o You must be Workstation 1.

  290. AFTER INSTALLATION:
  291. After installation, you will have several icons in the FaxMail for
  292. Windows Group. Please note the following icons:
  293.  Manual        (MANUAL.TXT)
  294.  Read Me       (README.TXT)
  295.  Q and A       (Q_A.TXT)
  296.  FaxMail Tutor (FMNWTUTR.WRI)
  297.  FaxMail Help  (FMNW.HLP)
  298. These should be read before using FaxMail Network for Windows. There is
  299. also [Contact-Sensitive Help] buttons, throughout FaxMail Network for
  300. Windows, for your convenience.
  301.  
  302. Everything is explained thoroughly in the FaxMail Network for Windows
  303. help system, which may be called upon from anywhere in FaxMail Network
  304. for Windows.
  305.  
  306. If you want to use FaxMail from within any Windows Application and/or
  307. take advantage of *ALL* the power FaxMail has, load FaxMail from the
  308. FaxMail Network for Windows Group before loading any other Windows
  309. Applications.
  310.  
  311. After the FaxMail program is loaded, click on the [Configure] button and
  312. SetUp and configure things *YOUR WAY*. I suggest that if you are not sure
  313. of something, leave the defaults set as it came to you. Make a printout
  314. of the defaults in case you change something you do not understand yet.

  317. WINDOWS 95/98/ME:
  318.  
  319. If you are installing on Windows 95/98/ME and after rebooting your
  320. computer the [ElectraSoft Print to Fax] does not show up in the printer
  321. selection list, use the Add Printer ICON as follows:
  322.   o  Click [My Computer], [Printers], [Add Printer], and the Add
  323.      Printer Wizard box will appear.
  324.   o  Click [Next].
  325.   o  Click [(*)Local Printer], [Next] to go to the Printer selection box.
  326.   o  Under [Manufacturer:] select [ElectraSoft].
  327.   o  Under [Printers:] select: [ElectraSoft Print to Fax]
  328.   o  Click [Next] to go to the [Available Port:] selection box.
  329.   o  Select [*]?:\TOFAX Unknown local port. Where the ? is the drive you
  330.      installed the fax program on.
  331.   o  Click [Next].
  332.   o  Click [(*)No], [Next].
  333.   o  Click [(*)Yes], [Next] and wait up to one minute.
  334.   o  When asked [Would you like to start the fax program, click [Yes].
  335.   o  Shortly the ElectraSoft [Send Fax] box will appear.
  336.   o  Click [View Fax] to be sure it worked ok.
  337.   o  When asked [Did the test page print correctly] click [Yes].

  340. WINDOWS 2000:
  341.  
  342. Adding the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] to Windows 2000:
  343.  
  344. During the FaxMail installation, the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax]
  345. ?:\TOFAX port is added to the available Windows Printer Ports. Where the
  346. ? is the drive you installed FaxMail on. However, the ?:\TOFAX port will
  347. not be available until after rebooting the computer. For this reason, the
  348. [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] will be created and added to your available
  349. Printer Drivers in the Printers Group the first time you run FaxMail. If
  350. for some reason the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] is not created, you can
  351. create it yourself using the follow method.
  352.  
  353.   1. Prepare to add the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax]
  354.      o Install FaxMail Network for Windows, using the Windows 2000
  355.        selection.
  356.      o Re-Boot the computer.
  357.      o Log on as Administrator.
  358.  
  359.   2. Use the Add Printer ICON and respond as follows:
  360.      Note: Some of the following lines my be out of sequence, depending
  361.            on the Windows 2000 Build.
  362.      o  Click [My Computer], [Printers], [Add Printer], and the [Welcome
  363.         to the Add Printer Wizard] box will appear.
  364.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Local or Network Printer] box.
  365.         Check (*)Local.
  366.         UnCheck []Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play
  367.         printer.
  368.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Select the Printer Port] box.
  369.         Select [?:\TOFAX Local Port]. Where ? is the HardDrive that you
  370.         installed FaxMail Network for Windows on.
  371.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Manufacturer and Printer] box.
  372.         Click [Have Disk], [Browse], and Locate File,
  373.         ?:\FAXMAILN\ESY2KPRN.INF. Where ? is the HardDrive that you
  374.         installed FaxMail Network for Windows on.
  375.         Select: [ESY2KPRN.INF] (Be sure the .INI extension is included)
  376.         Once back at the Manufacturer and Printer box
  377.         Select: [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax]
  378.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [You must assign a name for this
  379.         printer] box.
  380.         Printer name: [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax]
  381.         Check default printer: (*)No
  382.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Printer Sharing] box.
  383.         Check (*)Do not share this printer
  384.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Print Test Page] box.
  385.         Check (*)Yes
  386.      o  Click [Next] to go to the [Completing the Add Printer Wizard] box.
  387.         Click [Finish]
  388.      o  If the [Digital Signature Not Found] box appears, Click [Yes]
  389.      o  The test page should have been printed to the ?:\TOFAX port(file),
  390.         FaxMail Network for Windows should have converted it to a fax, and
  391.         the FaxMail Network for Windows -- Send Fax box should have
  392.         appeared. View the fax. Cancel the Send Fax box.
  393.      o  Click [OK] on the [A test page is being sent to the printer] box
  394.         and the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] ICON will appear in the
  395.         Printers group.
  396.  
  397.      Note:
  398.       Files used by the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] driver:
  399.       ?:\WINNT\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\2\FM_PN_NT.DLL
  400.       ?:\WINNT\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\2\RASDD.DLL

  408.   3. Restart your computer as you would after any installation.
  409.  
  410.   4. To use [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax], load FaxMail Network for
  411.      Windows and run it in background. Load a program and print to the
  412.      [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax].

  415. WINDOWS NT:
  416.

  418.  o Install FaxMail Network for Windows.
  419.  o Re-Boot the computer.
  420.  o Log on as Administrator.

  422. WINDOWS NT version 4.XX
  423.  
  424. Adding the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] to Windows NT:
  425.  
  426. During the FaxMail installation, the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax]
  427. ?:\TOFAX port is added to the available Windows Printer Ports. Where the
  428. ? is the drive you installed FaxMail on. However, the ?:\TOFAX port will
  429. not be available until after rebooting the computer. For this reason, the
  430. [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] will be created and added to your available
  431. Printer Drivers in the Printers Group the first time you run FaxMail. If
  432. for some reason the [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] is not created, you can
  433. create it yourself using the follow method.

  435.   1. FaxMail should have put the following lines in your NTPRINT.INF
  436.      file. You can move them into alphabetical if you wish, but it is
  437.      not necessary.

  456.      o  Click [(*)My Computer], [Next] to go to the Port selection box.
  457.      o  Under [Available ports:] Check-Mark and select [*]?:\TOFAX.
  458.      o  Click [Next] to go to the Printer selection box.
  459.      o  Press [F] on your key-board and select ElectraSoft under
  460.         [Manufactures:] and ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax under [Printers:].
  461.      o  Click [Next] to go to the Printer name box.
  462.      o  Under [Printer name:] type: ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax
  463.      o  Click [Next] to go to the Share box. [(*)Not Shared]
  464.      o  Click [Next] to go to the Print test page box.
  465.      o  Click [Finish] to go to the select printer driver box.
  466.      o  Use the [Browse] button to find fm_pn_nt.dll in the temporary
  467.         directory where you installed FaxMail from. NT will copy
  468.         fm_pn_nt.dll to the directories that it wants it in. After
  469.         copping fm_pn_nt.dll, NT will try to copy the RASter Devise

  688. One phone - two phone numbers. Contact your phone company and order
  689. [Distinctive Ring]. Distinctive Ring is another number that rings in on
  690. your same phone, at a very low cost. When someone dials your regular phone
  691. number, you will hear a 3 second RING (long RING) every 6 seconds
  692. start-to-start. When someone (or a fax machine) dials your [Distinctive
  693. Ring] number, you hear 2 short RINGs every 6 seconds start-to-start in the
  694. place of your normal long RING.
  695.  
  696. Be sure you are running a current version [FaxMail Network for Windows]
  697. or [32bit Fax]. Go to the ElectraSoft fax software [Configure], select
  698. [Configure Modem], and set [Type of RINGs to Answer] to [(X)Distinctive
  699. Rings Only]. Give everyone that you want to fax you your [Distinctive
  700. Ring] fax number. Now the fax software will only answer the faxes, and
  701. not interfere with your voice calls. If you also have an answering
  702. machine connected; set the answering machine to answer on RING 3 or above.
  703.  
  704. Solution 2:
  705. Go to the ElectraSoft fax software Setup/Configure and set
  706. [Rings-Until-We-Answer] to [Never]] so the fax software will not answer.
  707. If you answer the phone and find that it is a fax, load the Event Monitor
  708. and click the [Answer Now] button. When you here the modems negotiating,
  709. hang up and let the fax come it.

  711. Solution 3:
  712. To learn about the Supra [Silent Answer] function, go to the www-page
  713. listed below and download FaxMail. Included with it is a README, Q and A,
  714. and Manual the cover this subject in GREAT detail.

  716. Solution 4:
  717. CommShare not only listens for the fax-tone but also for a code that you
  718. can ask the sender to use. This way you do not miss the fax calls from
  719. the 20% of fax machines that do not send the fax-tone:-) I bought a
  720. CommShare at Best Buy.

  723. A modem and phone-line for each function.
  724.  
  725. Note:
  726. Modems are inexpensive...Get two modems. Run one phone-line from wall to
  727. Fax-Modem's Line-In-Jack, and another phone-line from said Fax-Modem's
  728. Phone-Jack to Email/Data/Etc-Modem's Line-In-Jack.

  731. SILENT ANSWER:
  732. Silent Answer requires the support and cooperation of the remote sending
  733. FaxModem/Machine with your receiving FaxModem. If the sending
  734. FaxModem/Machine does not support [Silent Answer] by sending the [CNG]
  735. tone, you will lose that Fax! Please read *all* of this area before
  736. using [Silent Answer]. If you still want [Silent Answer], here is what
  737. it does and how to implement it.
  738.  
  739. Silent answer let one telephone line be used for two purposes; receiving
  740. Faxes with the FaxModem, and receiving voice calls with an answering
  741. machine or telephone. When set to this mode, the FaxModem lets your
  742. answering machine answer all incoming calls. If it detects Fax [CNG]
  743. tones, it routes the call to FaxMail Network for Windows. Otherwise, it
  744. just sits silently on the phone line while you or your answering machine
  745. takes the call.
  746.  
  747. When the phone rings and after the second ring the FaxModem will start
  748. monitoring the telephone line. If it detects a Fax tone, it will receive
  749. the Fax. If it does not detects a fax tone, it will do nothing.
  750.  
  751. Silent Answer hardware installation When installing the FaxModem, DO NOT
  752. plug the answering machine into the telephone jack on the back of the
  753. FaxModem. Instead, do one of the following:
  754.  
  755. a. Plug the answering machine and FaxModem into different wall jack (i.e.
  756.    jacks in different rooms).
  757.  
  758. b. Plug the answering machine into a wall jack and the FaxModem into the
  759.    answering machine.
  760.  
  761. c. If your answering machine has some kind of phone-jack switching; use
  762.    this method. You must locate the two devices on separate extensions
  763.    to make silent answer work correctly. This means you can not plug the
  764.    answering machine into the FaxModem or vise versa. You can split a
  765.    single extension with a duplex jack adapter. Radio Shack commonly
  766.    carries these, part number 279-357 for $4.49.
  767.  
  768. Also, if you have an older answering machine that does NOT automatically
  769. turn itself off when it detects that a person or the FaxModem has
  770. answered the call, you need a $7.95 adapter from Radio Shack,
  771. part#43-107. This adapter disconnects the answering machine from the
  772. phone line when the call is answered. It goes between the answering
  773. machine and the wall jack.
  774.  
  775.  Note:
  776.  The device that is picking up the line initially, must answer after, and
  777.  not before, the second ring. This means you should set it to 3 for best
  778.  results. If no other device picks up the line by the time the number of
  779.  rings that FaxMail Network for Windows is set to is reached, FaxMail
  780.  Network for Windows will answer it and process a Fax.

  783. To activate Silent Answer
  784. Load the FaxMail Network for Windows [FaxMail] program and click on the
  785. [Configure] Button and on the Silent Answer [Check] Button. Set the
  786. number of rings until we answer to four and set your answering-machine to
  787. three rings. If the Silent Answer [Check] Button is inactive and gray,
  788. your FaxModem does not support Silent Answer.
