  44. Well, you're already running!
  45. <BR>
  46. If all you want to do is connect quickly you don't need
  47. to do anything else; all your remote networking phone entries will already appear in the
  48. popup menu, simply select one of those to bring up the connection dialog box.
  49. <BR>
  50. However, you will benefit from the other <A HREF="#features">features</A> available from
  51. DialupMaster to make your remote connections even more easier and faster.

  64. Connectivity is crucial with a WindowsCE device, and power mobile users require more
  65. functionality then the current set of features in Remote Networking. DialupMaster is a
  66. utility to fill the gap with the following features:
  67. <UL>
  68. <LI><B><a href="dialupmaster.htp#QuickConnect">Quick Connect</A></B></LI> 
  69. A popup menu on the system icon tray lists your connections. You can choose to show
  70. any or all of Modem, Direct and System entries. You can group common entries into sub-
  71. menus. (eg: If you have an ISP that you connect to either via your Internal Modem, or
  72. an external modem, or an IRDA GSM phone, you can group these together).
  73. <LI><B><a href="dialupmaster.htp#Scripts">Login Scripts</A></B></LI>
  74. Lacking from Remote Networking is login scripts. With DialupMaster you can now create
  75. custom login scripts that run after your modem connects to your ISP. The login script also
  76. reads your username, password and domain from your login dialog so you don't need to
  77. write your password into the script file. Each connection can have a different script.
  78. <LI><B><a href="dialupmaster.htp#Keepalive">Keep-Alive</A></B></LI>
  79. Some ISP's have an in-activity timeout, which disconnects you. Typically desktop PC's
  80. have a keep-alive PING program which sends a PING message at regular intervals to
  81. stop being disconnected. DialupMaster allows you to enable PING messages to a 
  82. user definable host at any period of minutes you set.

  84. Connecting over cellular phone and worried about the phone bill? How long have you
  85. been connected for? DialupMaster can display an online timer in the system icon tray
  86. counting the minutes you've been online for.

  88. DialupMaster has a shortcut menu to quickly open up Remote Networking (Connections
  89. under PSPC).

  91. DialupMaster integrates tightly with the OS. You do NOT need to dial the modem using
  92. a DialupMaster menu to use any of the features. If you prefer to use Remote Networking,
  93. or you use a 3rd party product which lauches a connection for you, DialupMaster will
  94. automatically be notified of the connection and still run your DialupMaster login script,
  95. show timers, send keep-alive messages!

  104. <br><a name="QuickConnect"></a><H3>Quick Connect Shortcuts</H3>
  105. The popup menu in the system icon tray will display shortcut menus to quickly
  106. launch a remote networking connection. You can choose to show modem, direct or
  107. system phonebook entries. (This is controlled from Pop-up menu settings).<BR>
  108. Because WindowsCE devices are a complement to a desktop, they tend to be used
  109. in a mobile environment. So it is common to have one or more ISP's or connections that a 
  110. single device may connect to, and also the connection may use different devices
  111. such as internal modems, external modems, IRDA, direct, etc. 
  112. <BR>
  113. With DialupMaster you can group together similiar phone entries into sub-menu
  114. groups. If you connect to an ISP called ZipWorld, and use both the internal modem
  115. and a GSM capable card modem, then you can have both these under a ZipWorld menu.
  116. <BR>
  117. To group, you need to use a seperator character to mark which part of the phone
  118. entry name is compared. By default, the @ character is a seperator. Using the
  119. above example the phone entries could be named:

  132. When you create a login script, DialupMaster will automatically send your
  133. details to the ISP for you! A login script is an ASCII text file that contains
  134. commands. The following commands are available:<BR>

  136. <LI><B>DELAY=<I>n</I></B> - Wait for <I>n</I> seconds<BR>
  137. <LI><B>SEND=<I>text</I></B> - Send the <I>text</I> as if it was typed<BR>
  138. <LI><B>SHOW=<I>True/False</I></B> - Shows or Hides the terminal window<BR>
  139. </UL>
  140. Any text following a ; is a comment and is ignored.<BR>
  141. <BR>
  142. The text used by the SEND command can contain macros. Macros are a special tokens
  143. surrounded by < >. If you need to send a < then type <<. <BR>The following macros
  144. are available:<BR>

  146. <LI><B><username></B> - Send the username
  147. <LI><B><password></B> - Send the password (it must be saved)
  148. <LI><B><domain></B> - Send the domain
  149. <LI><B><cr></B> - Send a carriage return

  151. <LI><B><getpin></B> - Pop-up PIN code keyboard

  181. <br><a name="Keepalive"></a><H3>Keep Alive Timer</H3>
  182. If your ISP disconnects you after a period of inactivity, you can use the
  183. keep alive timer to avoid being disconnected. The keep alive timer simply
  184. sends an internet PING message to a designated server. It is common for web
  185. servers to respond to PING messages, but it is not guaranteed to be the 
  186. case - so there is a test button provided to check if the server is compatible.

  188. You can define any period of minutes for the delay between sending PINGs.

  194. <br><a name="timer"></a><H3>Online Timer</H3>
  195. The online timer enables you to view how many minutes you've been online for.
  196. If you enable it, then then timer will automatically appear when ever a connection
  197. is established.

  199. This is very useful for monitoring how long a connection has been running 
  200. over expensive cellular and wireless data connections.

  206. If you want to change your remote networking configurations, this shortcut
  207. on the popup menu will enable to you to quickly open the remote networking
  208. (connections on PS/PC) application.

  215. DialupMaster is fully integrated into the OS. You do not need to connect
  216. using the DialupMaster popup menu to benefit from scripts, timers, and keep-alive.
  217. As long as DialupMaster is running it will receive notifications of connection
  218. related events.<BR>
  219. DialupMaster will also modify your phone entry to turn on the post dial
  220. terminal when you select a script to be run with a particular phone entry.

  243. You can choose which network entries are displayed in the pop-up menu and
  244. which characters are used to split an entry into submenus.
  245. <BR>
  246. The following options are available for Show<BR>
  247. <UL>
  248. <LI><B>Show System Entries (prefixed with `)</B></LI><BR>
  249. System entries are the built in direct connections, such as serial and IRDA.
  250. <LI><B>Show DIRECT device entries</B></LI><BR>
  251. DIRECT entries are direct serial connections, such as docking with a PC.
  252. <LI><B>Show MODEM device entries</B></LI><BR>
  253. MODEM entries can be internal software modems, external modems, PCCard modems, etc.
  254. </UL>
  255. Enable "Split entries into sub-menus" to check the phone entry name for any
  256. of the listed seperators. As soon as any of the seperators is found in the name
  257. a sub-menu will be created. (Sub-menus only go 1 level deep).
  258. <BR>
  259. By default the @ key is a seperator to split the DIRECT serial entries into a 
  260. sub-menu. Another typical seperator is a SPACE.

  265. <br><a name="settings_scripts"></a><H3>Login scripts</H3>
  266. Enable the all scripts checkbox to allow scripts to run. if this is not
  267. selected then DialupMaster will NOT run ANY scripts during a connection.

  269. To create or assign a script for a particular phone entry, select the
  270. entry from the drop down list, and either type the EXACT path to the
  271. an existing script file or use the browser button to explore the file
  272. system and select the script file.<BR>
  273. You can edit an existing script file by hitting the EDIT button. This will
  274. open the script file in the default text editor on the WindowsCE device.
  275. <B>Note: Not all CE devices have a built in text editor. If your device does
  276. not have one, then either copy the script file to the desktop for editing,
  277. or install a 3rd party editor on the CE device and alter the Advanced 
  278. settings to use it for script editing.</B>

  280. TO create a new script, hit the NEW button and type the new name of the
  281. script file.

  294. Advanced settings enable an alternative text editor to be defined for
  295. editing scripts.

  300. informed by technical support. The default of "Post Dial Terminal"
  301. should work in most cases.</B>

  321. If you currently need to use the Post Dial Terminal after you connect to your
  322. ISP to enter your username, password and PPP/Slip options, you can now automate
  323. this process with login scripts.
  324. <BR>
  325. When you create a login script, DialupMaster will automatically send your
  326. details to the ISP for you! A login script is an ASCII text file that contains
  327. commands.<BR>

  329. The first step is to determine exactly what you need to type when you do a
  330. normal login. If you already know, skip to 
  331. <a href="dialupmaster.htp#Howdoi_MakeScriptsCreate">Creating login scripts.</a><BR>
  332. You need to connect to your ISP using the Post Dial Terminal. (If you don't
  333. already use this then you may not be able to use login scripts to connect).
  334. When the terminal appears, make a note of what prompts are given from the
  335. server, and the EXACT responses that you type (or write!).<BR>
  336. You are now ready to create a login script!<BR>

  338. You can create a login script on a PC, or directly on your WindowsCE device
  339. if it has a text editor. <I>(Note: Not all devices have a built-in text 
  340. editor, if yours does not either use a PC or install an ASCII compatible
  341. text editor from a 3rd party)</I><BR>
  342. You can create a new template script file from the options/scripts preferences
  343. screen, tap NEW and enter a name for the script.<BR>
  344. To learn the simple scripting capabilities, tap

  347. Once you have your login script saved, you can assign it to one or more
  348. of your Networking profiles from the options/scripts preferences screen. 
  349. Select the network profile and browse to select the login script. Each time
  350. your connect using that profile, DialupMaster will automatically execute
  351. the script for you! <I>Note: DialupMaster knows when you connect, even if
  352. you dial with Remote Networking or some other program, and it will still
  353. automatically run your script(s)</I><BR>

  364. <H3>How to make sub-menu shortcuts</H3>
  365. To use sub-menus, firstly you need to make sure you have this feature enabled.
  366. <BR><P>
  367. From the Pop-up menu select Options, and then Properties.
  368. <BR><P>
  369. Select the Popup-Menu page, and make sure the checkbox is enabled.
  370. <BR><P>
  371. Initially the only seperator defined is the @ (at) character. This allows the
  372. system DIRECT serial connections to be stored under one sub-menu. You can use the
  373. @ character in your phone entry names to create your sub menus.
  374. <BR><P>
  375. Close the Properties dialog and open Remote Networking.
  376. <BR><P>
  377. As an example, say you had 2 entries both for connecting to the ZipWorld ISP, but
  378. one used the internal modem and the other used a GSM cellular card modem.

  380. Rename the entries to be:

  395. <br><a name="Howdoi_SetupKeepalive"></a><H3>How to setup the keep-alive timer</H3>
  396. To use the keep-alive timer to avoid being disconnected due to inactivity follow
  397. these steps.

  399. From the Pop-up menu select Options, and then Properties.
  400. <BR><P>
  401. Select the Keep-Alive Page, and make sure the checkbox is enabled.
  402. <BR><P>
  403. By default the host <A HREF="http://www.yahoo.com">www.yahoo.com</A> is defined as
  404. the PING server. Do not change this option unless you want to use your own PING
  405. server (for faster response). 
  406. <BR><P>
  407. Alter the time setting to a value below the inactivity time used by your ISP.
  408. <BR>Eg: If your ISP disconnects you after 10 minutes of inactivity, then set your
  409. PING time for every 9 minutes.
