  3. Archiving to floppy Ö If you want to archive a large directory from a 
  4. hard disc onto floppies, (a) give all the floppies the same name, 
  5. (b)ácopy onto floppy 1 until Édisc fullæ message, (c)ádismount the 
  6. floppy, (d) mount the second one, (e) click on ÉRetryæ and away you go, 
  7. (f) donæt forget to give the floppies a meaningful name once you have 
  8. finished.

  12. CC Turbodrivers Ö You may find that you get different paper margins when 
  13. using the standard !Printers application compared with CC settings. CC 
  14. helpline was right: the Acorn driver does not check for the printer DIP 
  15. switch settings! The printer I tried was an HP Deskjet.

  19. Display of large row numbers in PipeDream 4 Ö I have read several times 
  20. in your magazine about how PipeDream 4 will not display large row 
  21. numbers correctly. During an idle moment recently, I experimented with 
  22. this anomaly and found that the effect is dependent on the Desktop 
  23. display font used (obviously only applicable to RISC OS 3.5 or later).

  25. A monospaced font (System, Courier etc) give the worst results, chopping 
  26. off all but the last two figures in the row number. Proportionally 
  27. spaced fonts are much better, displaying at least the last three 
  28. numerals.

  30. However, for some unknown reason, the outline font öSystem.Mediumò 
  31. supplied with RISC OS 3.5 allows at least four numerals to be displayed 
  32. in the row border. System.Medium is not a particularly attractive choice 
  33. for the desktop font but as it is so easy to change it, very long 
  34. PipeDream files can be quite simply viewed in System.Medium, before 
  35. reverting to oneæs favourite font. Changing the desktop font does not 
  36. alter the font in which the PipeDream file itself is displayed.

  40. Network cards on RISC OS 3.6 Ö Please check the file 
  41. !Boot.Choices.Boot.PreDesk.SetUpNet, otherwise you may find that quite a 
  42. few modules are Éunpluggedæ.

  46. Night Sky and the system date Ö Some time ago, my version of Night Sky 
  47. suddenly refused to load, and nothing I tried (from starting the program 
  48. directly from floppy to a complete reset of my computer) helped.

  50. Since yesterday (New Year) it works again; the trouble lies in the 
  51. (German RISC OS only?) system date; Night Sky checks the date while 
  52. loading and, for some reason, canæt handle December! Clares have 
  53. promised to look for a solution. So if, in December, Night Sky gave you 
  54. trouble, try it again in January!
