Documentation : 27th Jan 1993
!Draw-Met is a Utility for converting Acorn Draw files to and from OS2 Metafile.
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The DrawMet arc file should have been restored to a directory named
!Draw-Met. Which should contain the following files :-
!Run : Draw-Met Startup file.
!Sprites : Draw-Met Application Sprites
!Templates : Template files
Draw-Met : Draw-Met Application.
Palette : Default Metafile Colour Table.
Extended : Extended Colour Table
~~config : Configuration file for Draw-Met.
!Help : This file.
Tailoring.
~~~~~~~~~~
The !run file should be altered to suite your requirements :-
Modules required :-
The Shared C Library should be loaded as appropriate for
your setup. The supplied !run file assumes that the C
shared library module is in !system.modules.
The Floating Point Emulatory should be loaded as appropriate for
your setup. The supplied !run file assumes that the FPEmulator
module is in !system.modules.
Variables required :-
Draw-Met$Dir is required in order for Draw-Met to find its various
configuration files.
Storage required :-
!Draw-Met has been tested with a wimpslot size of 128k
on a machine with 32k pages. lower values may be possible
on machines with smaller page sizes.
The file to be converted is loaded into a buffer claimed from
the next slot. The space is return immediately after the conversion,
so you should not be able to see the change.
If !Draw-Met prompts that it does not have enough memory to process,
then !Draw-Met must be restarted, having made provision that
the next slot is large enough.
Operation.
~~~~~~~~~~
1) First click on the !Draw-Met icon. This will install the !Draw-Met
icon on the icon bar.
2) To convert a Draw file, drag the file to the !Draw-Met icon on
the icon bar. This will popup a save OS2 Metafile window. Drag the
OS2 Metafile icon to the required destination.
3) To convert an OS2 Metafile, drag the file to the !Draw-Met icon on
the icon bar. This will popup a save Draw window. Drag the
Draw icon to the required destination.
Direct Conversions/Wimp Pipes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you are converting a number of files then you might like to use the
wimp pipes facility. Clicking on !Draw-Met icon ( or via normal menus )
will bring up an options window.
If the Draw/OS2 Metafile file icon is then dragged to a directory or application then a
a pipe is set up to that directory or application. Dragging a file or set
of files to the iconbar icon, will no longer prompt for a target file name but
automatically send the file to the relevant application or directory.
Control Options
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
File Options
------------
Trace
Causes Draw-Met to output a trace file called trace in the !Draw-Met directory.
( Used for debugging purposes ).
Warnings
Causes Draw-Met to output any warnings to a file called warnings
in the !Draw-Met directory.
Prompt Options
--------------
Prompt for filename
Will cause !Draw-Met to prompt for the target file name
Prompt Warnings
Will cause !Draw-Met to prompt any warnings that occur
Direct Links
------------
Dragging either file icon will set the default target path for that
particular file type. This will also unset the prompt for filename.
Current Restrictions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not all OS2 Metafile elements are yet support, please report diagrams that
do not convert properly. ( Many Thanks ).
Some Metafiles use negative coordinate, if you convert such a file you will currently
have to do a select all and drag to a positive quadrant. If no elements are visible
draw an item, do a select all and then drag newly drawn item off to top right.
