  15.             Fresco(r) browser used for interactive trial

  17. 30th April 1996 - Cambridge, England: Users of the Cambridge Interactive
  18. Television Trial can now access the World Wide Web through their domestic
  19. TV sets, thanks to browser software developed by ANT Ltd in partnership
  20. with Acorn Online Media.

  22. The trial, run by Acorn Online Media and its partner companies,
  23. demonstrates the possibilities of interactive television including video
  24. and audio on demand. Users can now access Web pages using their TV remote
  25. control. A version of ANT's Fresco(r) web browser is available along with
  26. other interactive text and video services.

  28. ANT Ltd has worked closely with Acorn Online Media to develop a customised
  29. version of Fresco which can be used with set-top boxes rather than
  30. computers and controlled by a handset instead of a mouse and keyboard.

  32. 'Interactive television is not simply about video on demand, games, or home
  33. shopping - it is about giving the user access to the widest possible set of
  34. information and entertainment services, presented in a simple and
  35. accessible manner.  Having the Internet accessible to Trial users is a
  36. major step forward towards this objective,' said Alan Clarke, Cambridge
  37. Trial services manager at Acorn Online Media.
