****************************************************
* Use !Configure to save your configuration before *
* you start playing with these programs so that *
* you can restore your configuration if you make *
* a mess of it. You have been warned! *
****************************************************
These little programs each change just one "bit"
in the CMOS configuration, and their effect is
described below. They are useful because they
correspond to configuration options which have not
yet been made accessible from the command line or
the !Configure application.
They have been tested on our RiscPCs and do not
seem to have much effect on RISC OS 3.1 machines.
It would not be advisable to use them on any other
versions of the operating system as Acorn do not
guarantee that the meaning of particular locations
within the CMOS RAM will be the same.
DragSprite (byte 28, bit 1)
~~~~~~~~~~
When dragging a file icon, this sets whether or
not to use a dotted box or a moving sprite.
Setting this has an immediate effect.
ShftToggle (byte 28, bit 4)
~~~~~~~~~~
This tells the Desktop whether windows should stop
above the iconbar when you click on their toggle
size icons. The behaviour is swapped when you hold
<shift> down. This option has immediate effect.
TruncNames (byte 28, bit 0)
~~~~~~~~~~
This tells RISC OS whether to truncate filenames
that are too long (ie. greater than ten
characters) and therefore potentially overwrite an
existing file, or to give a meaningless error
message to prevent you from saving a file unless
it has ten characters or less in the name. You
need to reset before this will take effect.
