  7. AcoPass is a program designed for the Acorn PocketBook I/II range of
  8. machines (although it will also run on the Psion Series 3/3a machines).
  9. It supplies access to the machine password protection that exists on
  10. the Psion machines but was removed from the Acorn machines.
  11. In adition, it offers an extra feature for Psion users not available
  12. with the built in password controls (the ability to clear the password).

  29. Installation
  30. ------------
  31. Copy the file acopass.app to a directory on the machine (such as
  32. M:\APP\) and then choose the "Install" option from the system screen.
  33. A "door" icon should appear.
  34.  
  35. Usage
  36. -----
  37. Select the AcoPass icon, and press Enter. You will be presented with
  38. an information dialog. Press Enter to pass this. If you have previously
  39. set a password, you will be asked to type this in before you can 
  40. continue. You will then be presented with the main options dialog.
  41.   The "Password set" field controls whether or not the password screen
  42. will be displayed when you turn the machine on.
  43.   The "New password" and "Confirm password" fields are used to alter
  44. (or set) the current password. To set the current password, type the 
  45. same word (up to 8 characters long) into both the fields, and then
  46. press Enter. If both fields match, the program will exit and the password
  47. will be set.
  48.   Pressing the Escape key on any dialog will cause the program to exit
  49. without altering the current setting.
  50.   Pressing the Help key on any dialog will cause the program to display
  51. help information.

  53. Machine on Password Screen
  54. --------------------------
  55. If you set the "Password set" field to "On", every time the machine is
  56. switched on, you will be required to enter the password before the machine
  57. can be used (or just press Enter if no password is set). The machine's
  58. "Set owner" data will also be displayed on this screen.
  59. If a password is set, THERE IS NO WAY PAST THIS SCREEN. You will need to
  60. reset your machine should you forget the password! Remember, take backups
  61. regularly

  63. Altering "Password set" setting alone
  64. -------------------------------------
  65. If you wish to alter the "Password set" field without altering the password,
  66. change it to the desired state and press Enter. If there is nothing in the
  67. password fields, the program will ask if you wish to clear the current
  68. password and you should reply N for no. The program will then exit without
  69. altering the current password.

  71. Clearing password
  72. -----------------
  73. If you set a password, but turn off the startup screen, and at a later
  74. date you wish to turn it on, but you have forgotten the password you 
  75. earlier set, you will not be able to use the password function until
  76. the machine has been reset.
  77. If you intend turning off the password function, but using it at a later
  78. date, you should ensure that no password has been set.
  79. You can clear any current passord by not filling in the two password
  80. fields (New and Confirm) with anything, and then pressing Enter.
  81. The program will ask if you wish to clear the current password, and you
  82. should reply Y for yes. The program will then exit having cleared the 
  83. current password.

  113. That means it may be distributed by any means except those explicitly
  114. stated by the author in this document.

  118. It may be distributed on commercial or non-commercial electronic 
  119. networks (such as CiX, Compuserve, and also the Internet), and 
  120. through libraries (such as 3-Lib) on floppy disk only, 
  121. although no charge apart from distribution costs should be made.
