Where was Impress1? It was on the Octoberá1991 PipeLine 3 disc. It is
a discussion of when to use PipeDream and when to use Impression.
This is more in the nature of a begging letter.
Many correspondents have asked me if we run a user group similar to
PipeLine but for users of Impression. I have received a few
contributions for PipeLine which would be of use only to those with
both PipeDream and Impression. Because you would need both packages to
benefit, I have, with some reluctance, had to put such applications
into cold storage.
Anyway, I have decided to try to produce a 'special' one-off 'ILine'
disc for PipeLine subscribers who have both packages. If you have
anything which you would like to contribute to such as disc then please
send me a copy. It can be hints and tips for using Impression, the
PipeDream to Impression convertor, or indeed anything useful to an
Impression user.
However, please be careful about the following:
Please use only those fonts which come with the Impression package so
that your contribution can be read by others. If you create a document
which uses a font that others don't have then they will get an error
message and not see what you see.
If you use sprites then create them in one of the 'standard' modes such
as 12 or 15. The Impression !NewMode utility does give problems with
some RISCáOSá3 machines. Users of those machines don't load !NewModes
and hence their machine will not know the 'shape' of, say, NewMode 66.
If you create a sprite using a mode unknown to the 'reader' of your
document then they will not 'see' your sprite at all! However, all is
not lost if you have a 'good' sprite created in a 'non standard' mode.
You can use the utility !ChangeFSI to convert the sprite from your mode
to either mode 12 (16 colour) or modeá15 (256 colour) so that it can be
'read' on a 'standard' machine.
Sprites do use up a lot of disc space. On the ILine disc can I use
!Spark or !Compression to squeeze more on a disc or would you prefer
uncompressed files on more discs?
Naturally, if you provide a contribution which is published, then you
will receive a free copy of the disc which includes your contribution.
