  3. Welcome to the Antennas CDROM!
  4.  
  5. The attempt has been to prepare a self-contained, easy to use source of all or
  6. at least the major programs and data needed by workers in radio.  A further
  7. goal has been to make the material available in form suitable for a wide range
  8. of computer setups.  To this end, this material is intended to run under DOS,
  9. or, for a some files, under the machine's own OS.
  10.  
  11. Most files are provided in ASCII (.ASC) format for easy transfer to a non-IBM
  12. system.  However, all executable (.EXE) programs can be run under windows
  13. using File Manager, or by setting up a batch file.
  14.  
  15. I have kept the indices simple.  They should be perfectly clear to anyone
  16. with radio experience.  All files have been checked on the source machine and
  17. disks.  I have checked all major programs, and sample checked the others.  The
  18. programs in FORTRAN can be troublesome, due to the rigidity with respect to
  19. I/O.  I have included suitable cautions notes.

  21. The programs MiniNEC, NEC and ThinWire are included as source (and with some
  22. variations).  However, the basic approach has been to provide support programs
  23. to simplify problem setup.  This is in contrast to commercial sources -- their
  24. offerings are simplified versions, easy to use within their limits, but
  25. definitely limited. (ThinWire is only available elsewhere in poor readability
  26. paper form).  Public domain programs are as sourced.  Many include the source
  27. .ZIP file as a safety measure.  Two public domain .GIF readers are included
  28. for DOS and for Windows (as well as two more provided by Walnut Creek CDROM
  29. default installation). Other machines will need to use their own reader.

  50. Quick Start Instructions:
  51.  
  52.   Windows 3.1/NT:
  53.     Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run.  At the
  54.     Command Line box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.
  55.     This will install a group folder with icons for this cdrom.

  57.   MSDOS Quick Start:
  58.     Change to your CDROM drive and type "view".
  59.     Example:
  60.           C:\> D:
  61.           D:\> view
  62.  
  63.   Windows 95:
  64.     Insert the cdrom into the cdrom drive.  This will automatically
  65.     start a CDROM browser program called WinView.
  66.     Alternatively, you can also install the program group and icon
  67.     by selecting the "Start" menu and choosing "Run".  At the Run
  68.     box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.

  70. Using the 00_INDEX.HTM:
  71.  
  72. We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
  73. to view our disc.

  75. In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your
  76. Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file.

  78. For example, in Netscape/Mosaic:
  79.  
  80.         1) Choose File/Open File (or File/Open Local File with Mosaic)
  81.         2) Choose your CDROM Drive under "Drives"
  82.         3) Select the 00_index.htm file
  83.         4) Click on OK
  84.  
  85. The 00_index.htm files have been tested under Netscape 1.1 (Windows,
  86. Macintosh, and FreeBSD), Netscape 1.22 (Windows), Netscape 2.0b2,
  87. Mosaic 2.00 (Final Beta), and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

  91. WinView and View
  92.  
  93. To make browsing the disc easier, we have included the program WinView
  94. for Windows, and the program VIEW for MSDOS on the CDROM.  These programs
  95. allow you to page through index files, browse through directories on the
  96. CD, view documentation and uncompress/install the program(s) you want
  97. onto your hard disk.

  101. Shareware

  103. This disk contains many shareware programs and images. Shareware can
  104. be considered to be a sort of try before you buy system where you are
  105. expected to pay the program author a registration fee if you find the
  106. program or image useful.  You will find details of registration
  107. included in the document/text files provided with each program.
