  1. Stephen Scott's Showreel

  3. Since I produced the third cover CD in 1997, I had pondered
  4. over whether to include some of my own personal work, both
  5. from my degree course, and from within myself.
  6.  
  7. I decided that for this 200th issue I should include something
  8. or other, so I present to you these two Quicktime movies from
  9. my degree course. One of them is my own work, while the other
  10. I co-produced with another student.
  11.  
  12. I would have converted these two files into Replay format,
  13. but for two reasons. The first was that I didnt have a copy of
  14. !MovieFS at the time of creating the CD, so I had to leave them
  15. as is. The second reason was that by converting to Replay
  16. format, people with non CD drive Acorns could not run the files
  17. on a PC or Macintosh if they had access to one. So I have left
  18. them as Quicktimes.

  20. I seem to recall both these movies working on a 1996 version of
  21. MovieFS, so the latest version *must* be able to cope with them.
  22. They will certainly work on Macs and PCs. Although the two
  23. files are not filetyped, you should be able to drag them into
  24. !ARMovie (if you own MovieFS as well) and play them straight
  25. off the disc.

  27. I must apologise for the quality of both movies. Subsequent
  28. moving from computer to computer has meant compressing it
  29. further and further, and I do not own the originals any more.
  30. That said, you can still make out most of what is going on.
  31. Another point worth noting is that parts of the soundtracks
  32. in both movies have been chopped out in order to prevent
  33. breach of copyright. I dont think leaving the movies with
  34. bits of the Beatles or Mark Morrison would be very clever
  35. would it?!

  37. With that said, I'll describe the two movies;

  39. LUST (LUST.MOV; 8mb AVI/Quicktime file)
  40.  
  41.    Produced in mid 1996, this project marked the end of my
  42.    first year at university. The brief was to pick a deadly
  43.    sin, and make a minute long movie interpreting it in
  44.    sound and vision. This was my result. The visuals are a 
  45.    bit strong in places, so dont be too offended!

  49. MACADMIN (MACMIN.MOV; 6mb AVI/Quicktime file)

  51.    Produced in early 1997, this project was produced with
  52.    a fellow student and all round decent bloke (although he
  53.    is a bit obsessed with motorbikes) Dave Karena. Our aim
  54.    was to express the misery of the computer network design
  55.    students had to use at university. It also ridicules the
  56.    operation of an Apple Mac. Be aware that colourful
  57.    language is used in the movie, so keep it away from young
  58.    children (yes, I know there is educational software on the
  59.    same CD, so dont flame me for it!)

  61.    BTW, this film stars me in it. Its my first attempt at
  62.    acting, and I think it should be my last, judging by the
  63.    look of it.

  68. Both movies were produced on Apple Macs using Adobe Premiere 4,
  69. but in the case of the Lust movie, all the typography was
  70. produced using Artworks (and a load of fonts), and then screen
  71. grabbed to a particular size. Exported as TIFF, they were then
  72. imported into Premiere, along with other bits and pieces. Some
  73. sounds were also taken from the Acorn - can you guess which
  74. game it was?

  76. I hope you enjoy the movies. Note that although these movies
  77. can be freely distributed, they are not to be taken apart or
  78. edited without our (Stephen Scott, Dave Karena) express
  79. permission.
