  6. This archive contains new versions of the RISC iX programs as and
  7. xterm.  It also has an updated man page for as.
  8.  
  9. To install the upgrade, login as root and type:
  10.  
  11.     # zcat as+xterm.tar.Z | (cd /; tar xvpf -)
  12.  
  13. The new assembler contains support for .stab directives, which then
  14. provides debugging capabilities in GCC.  It is also *much* quicker
  15. (potential 10-fold or greater improvement) when assembling files over
  16. NFS.

  18. The new version of xterm closes a recently well-publicised security
  19. hole which allows the creation of a root-owned file anywhere on the
  20. system.
