!LPR - a frontend for Roger Gammans' lpr client

In February I got hold of Roger Gammans' extremely useful lpr client. lpr is
a command line utility that allows the user to send jobs to remote printers.
To make it a little easier to use, I have written this simple desktop
frontend for it.
It's a bit of a rushed application, and certainly could do with some
refinement, especially on the error-reporting side, but it seems stable
enough for use at the moment.
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
To use !LPR, double click on its icon and it will install itself on the
iconbar. Clicking select on its icon opens the configuration window.
The configuration window allows you to set the remote host where print jobs
are queued, and the remote printer name. When first opened, there will be no
known hosts or printers, so you will need to enter these details into the
writable fields. Once you have clicked select on the 'OK' button, the
information you have entered will be added to the list and will be available
next time you start !LPR. The currently selected host and printer will also
be preserved as the defaults for the next session.
To print a file on the remote host, simply drag its icon onto the iconbar
icon. The icon will indicate that it is busy while the file is sent, but the
app multitasks while doing this. If the job is taking a long time, there could
be a problem, so you can hit the 'Halt' button to cancel the job. This can
occur if the printer selected doesn't exist on the host you are trying to print
to.
...and that's about it! Fortunately Roger has done all the hard work in
getting us a usable lpr client for which thanks are due.
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
I have included Roger's distribution of his lpr client in the 'Docs'
directory within !LPR. He can be contacted at rgammans@compsurg.demon.co.uk.
I can be contacted at ljg@star.le.ac.uk, or liam@binliner.demon.co.uk.
Contacting me at my starlink address is more likely to get a speedy response,
and I welcome all comments except those which are plain nasty.
To date, I have only tested LPR with postscript (mono and colour) and plain
text files files to three of our remote printers, and have encountered no
problems. It has been tested with RISC OS 3.1, 3.60 and 3.70 (with a StrongARM).
