  2.                    MAP INFORMATION FOR CALLER DISPLAY

  7. Caller Display can display a map of the UK showing the location of
  8. the caller or of a town or city.
  9.  
  10. This map was generated with David Pilling's excellent Panorama program
  11. which in turn uses data from the CIA World fact book.
  12.  
  13. The UKmap sprite in the Sprites file covers the area from -11,+49° to
  14. +2,+59°, using simple projection (ie linear translation from co-ordinates
  15. to pixels).
  16.  
  17. Extra features may be added to the map to indicate town, cities or
  18. area offices, providing the map covers the same area and uses the
  19. same number of pixels in each axis.
  20.  
  21. At present the map uses a 4 colour sprite (to minimise memory
  22. requirements), but this can be changed without requiring any modification
  23. to the software.
  24.  
  25. The co-ordinate data in the Area Codes file provides the approximate
  26. position of the major town and cities. The accuracy is quite adequate
  27. for the purpose of this software, but note that some area codes
  28. cover quite a large area and can also cover several small towns.
  29.  
  30. The co-ordinates in the AreaCodes file are integers representing the
  31. latitude and longtitude in minutes. For example, Ipswich is 52°0' North
  32. and 1°8' East and this is represented in the AreaCodes file as 3120,68
  33. (ie 52×60=3120, 1×60+8=68).

  38. The AreaCodes file was compiled from various sources and compiled
  39. automatically.

  41. Much of the data is derived from the Oftel Specified Numbering Scheme -
  42. Code List, issued by Oftel's Numbering Administration Unit. That 'Code
