Installation Instructions
==================================================================
* Installation
Sprint Internet Passport 3.01 software is being distributed for
Windows(R) 3.x, Windows95(R), and Macintosh(R) operating systems.
This CD contains all three sets of software; be sure to install
the correct version for your operating system.
If you are running Windows(R) 3.x or Windows for Workgroups(R),
you MUST use the Windows(R) 3.x program even if you have Win32s
installed.
Under Windows95(R), modem support is provided by the operating
system. If the software cannot find your modem, or incorrectly
identifies your modem, you may have a hardware conflict or failure.
You should contact your system or modem manufacturer for help in
determining the problem.
Under Windows(R) 3.x, if the software cannot find your modem,
or incorrectly identifies your modem, you may be able to manually
specify your modem. To do so, follow these steps:
Modem is incorrectly identified:
1. During installation, at the Modem Setup Screen
(the incorrect modem is displayed), click the
CHANGE... button.
2. Under MANUFACTURER (the left column), select
your modem manufacturer.
3. Under MODEL (the right column), select
your modem model.
4. Click OK, and then click NEXT to continue the
installation / registration process.
Modem is not found:
1. You will be prompted that a modem was not found.
Click NEXT.
2. Select your modem as described above under
"Modem is incorrectly identified".
3. Select the appropriate COM port. If you do not
know what COM port your modem is on, contact
your system or modem manufacturer for help
in making that determination.
4. Click FINISH and then click NEXT to continue
the installation / registration process.
If your exact modem is not listed, contact your modem or system
manufacturer for details on a compatible selection (e.g., many
modems will work if identified as "Hayes Compatible"). If your
modem does not work after following these steps, you may have
a hardware conflict or failure. Contact your modem
manufacturer for help in determining the problem.
* Multiple Area Codes in Local Dialing Area: If you live in an area
where a local call can span multiple area codes (common in cities on
state borders), you may want to delete the 1 and the area code in your
dialer to prevent dialing-in-error messages.
Windows(R) 3.x: After registration is complete, launch
the Sprint Internet Passport Dialer by double-
clicking the Sprint Internet Passport Dialer icon
in the Sprint Internet Passport program group.
In the Dialer, click on PROPERTIES. In the
Provider Phone Number field, clear the Area Code.
Click OK, and you will be ready to dial.
Windows95(R): After registration is complete, click the START
button, highlight PROGRAMS, highlight ACCESSORIES,
click on DIAL-UP NETWORKING, second-mouse (right-
mouse) click on the Sprint Internet icon, and
click on PROPERTIES. To disable long distance
dialing, clear the Area Code field. Click the
OK button to exit the Properties dialogue for Sprint
Internet. Click the X in the upper right corner
of the Dial-Up Networking window to close Dial-Up
Networking.
* Local versus Long Distance Dialing: Be aware that in some areas, it
is not necessary to dial 1 or zero to dial "long distance", nor to
incur long distance dialing charges - even within the same area code.
This is common in areas where "dialing zones" have been defined.
If you don't know if long distance charges apply when dialing your
local Sprint access number, contact your local telephone company.
* The Netscape Audio Plug-in will only work if you have a sound
card installed and configured properly. It will not work
with the PC speaker driver. Please check your sound card manual
to configure the sound card.
* AVI Plugins on the Windows(R) 3.x version of the software
require Video for Windows(R). You can download Video for Windows(R)
from:
ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/navigator/3.0/windows/wv1160.exe
* Java is enabled in the Windows95(R) version only.
==================================================================
Win32s
==================================================================
Windows(R) 3.1, Windows(R) 3.11, and Windows for Workgroups(R) users:
If you have Win32s installed, you must be running version 1.20 of
Win32s (or above) in order to install the Sprint Internet Passport
software. As stated earlier in this document, even if you have Win32s
installed, you must use the Windows(R) 3.x version of the software.
==================================================================
OLE 2.02
==================================================================
Windows(R) 3.1, Windows(R) 3.11, and Windows for Workgroups (R)users:
The Windows(R) 3.1 Installer will install the following OLE2
files into the Windows(R) System directory if there is no existing
DLL or if the existing DLL is older:
COMPOBJ.DLL 108544 10-10-94
MFCOLEUI.DLL 146976 1-13-95

Information about the Quicktime Plug-in
==================================================================
This part describes what you will need and how to use the
Windows(R) version of Apple's QuickTime plug-ins for Sprint Internet
Passport 3.01.
WHAT THE QUICKTIME PLUG-IN DOES:
Apple's QuickTime plug-in for Sprint Internet Passport 3.01 or
later lets you experience QuickTime content directly in the
Navigator browser window. You no longer need a "helper
application" like MoviePlayer to view QuickTime content with
Navigator 3.01. You can also view QuickTime VR Panoramas and
Objects inline, after downloading the QuickTime VR component
from Apple.
The QuickTime plug-in works with existing QuickTime movies,
and with movies prepared to take advantage of the plug-in's
"fast start" feature. The "fast start" feature will present
the first frame of the movie almost immediately and can
begin playing even before the movie has been completely
downloaded. The "fast start" feature saves you time waiting
for the entire movie to download, but otherwise plays just
like a regular QuickTime movie.
Sprint Internet Passport software will use the QuickTime
plug-in automatically to play any QuickTime movie while
browsing the Internet. The plug-in can play many kinds of
QuickTime movies (.mov files) including movies with text,
MIDI, and other kinds of data. If you have downloaded and
installed the QuickTime VR component, it will also let you
interact with QuickTime VR Panoramas and Objects.
WHAT YOU NEED:
* A PC running Windows(R) 3.1 or Windows95(R)
* Latest version(s) of QuickTime :
- QuickTime 2.1.2 for Windows(R)
The complete QuickTime file set is NOT included on this CD.
To use the QuickTime plug-in, you must download the most
recent version of QuickTime from:
http://www.quicktime.apple.com/sw/
Follow the instructions on the page to install the software.
* QuickTime VR
If you would like to view QuickTime VR (Virtual Reality)
Panoramas and Objects using the QuickTime plug-in, you will
need the QTVR library for Windows(R) (QTVRW.QTC). The QTVR
software is *not* included with Sprint Internet Passport 3.01,
but you can download them from either the Apple QuickTime VR
site (http://qtvr.quicktime.apple.com) or the QuickTime
Software page (http://quicktime.apple.com).
The QTVRW.QTC file must be in the WINDOWS(R) directory of
your primary drive (e.g., C:\WINDOWS).
If you have never seen QuickTime VR before, be sure to stop
by Apple's QuickTime VR web page
(http://qtvr.quicktime.apple.com)
to learn more about this cool software.
HOW TO USE THE PLUG-IN:
Sprint Internet Passport 3.01 includes the QuickTime plug-in.
As stated above, however, the complete QuickTime file set is
NOT included on this CD. To use the QuickTime plug-in, you
must download the most recent version of QuickTime from:
http://www.quicktime.apple.com/sw/
After installing the downloaded software, you must quit the
browser application (Netscape Navigator). When you relaunch
the browser, the plug-in will be loaded and ready to use.
After you have set up the software, you may want to re-visit the
site (http://quicktime.apple.com) for additional information
on:
* Cool sample pages that illustrate how you can
incorporate Quicktime into your web pages.
* Pointers to pages by other companies that incorporate
QuickTime.
* Information on how to optimize your movies for playback
on the internet.
* Documentation on how to customize your web pages to take
full advantage of the QuickTime plug-ins.
FREQUENT QUESTIONS:
Q: I am running Windows95(R). I installed the QuickTime VR
software (QTVRW.QTC) in my WINDOWS(R) directory, and rebooted.
But when I run Navigator with the QuickTime VR component,
I can't view QuickTime VR Panoramas and Objects.
A: You must use the correct software for your version of Windows(R).
The Windows(R) 3.x version will not work with the Windows95(R)
version of Sprint Internet Passport software.
Q: I have Sprint Internet Passport 3.01, but the QuickTime
plug-in doesn't seem to be working.
A: Navigator 3.01 lets you pick plug-ins for different types
of content, just like you pick helper apps. You may need to
pick the QuickTime plug-in in the Navigator
"Options/Helpers" dialog to make the QuickTime plug-in work.
Q: I am using a Web browser other than
Sprint Internet Passport 3.01 or Netscape Navigator
3.01 and I am experiencing problems with the QuickTime
plug-in.
A: Currently, the QuickTime plug-in only supports
Sprint Internet Passport 3.01 or Netscape Navigator 3.01
or later.
Q: I am browsing a page with a QuickTime VR panorama and
expect that I can use the shift and control under Windows(R)
to zoom in/zoom out of the movie.
Likewise, with a regular QuickTime movie, I expect the arrow
keys to step through the movie a frame at a time. But the
movies don't seem to respond to keystrokes.
A: You need to select the QuickTime VR panaroma or QuickTime
movie first by clicking on it. On Windows(R), the arrow keys do
not work.
Q. I'd like to save some of the movies to my hard drive. How
do I do this?
A. You can click on the movie and press Control-S on the PC
to bring up a "save" dialogue. However, this will not
work for QuickTime VR movies. To save QuickTime VR movies
go to the Navigator 3.01 menu, select Options/General
Preferences/Helpers, then select QuickTime from the list and
choose Edit. At this point, you'll be presented with a few
options, all will work for saving QuickTime VR files.
In case of trouble:
If you run into difficulties or have comments, please let the
makers of QuickTime know by sending e-mail to:
webmaster@quicktime.apple.com
Please be sure to let QuickTime know which version of the plug-in
you are using (Mac or Windows(R)) and which operating system
(which system software or version of Windows(R)) you are
running. Because of the heavy traffic on the QuickTime
pages, QuickTime may not be able to respond to your e-mail
individually. We appreciate your feedback!
We hope you enjoy the QuickTime plug-in!
