Zup 1.0, part of the UnSquish distribution
==========================================
Zup is a decompressor for XPK files. You need XPK installed on your
system in order to be able to use it. XPK is not included in this
package (it's huge), but is available from the Aminet. As usual, you
also need AmigaOS 2.00 or above.
Why use Zup instead of UnSquish?
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
UnSquish has to load the entire file into memory in order to decompress
it. XPK can stream directly to/from disk. Zup makes use of this
and is thus more memory efficient. If you don't have much memory, you
can decompress larger XPK files with Zup than you would be able to with
UnSquish.
Why is it called "Zup"?
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The standard XPK decompressor is called Xup. I guess this is pronounced
"zup" (a la xylophone and xenon). Hence I called my XPK decompressor
"Zup".
Usage
¯¯¯¯¯
Shell usage only. There's no icon, and it won't run from Workbench.
Format: Zup <source file> [destination file] [PASSWORD=<password>]
Template: Zup SOURCE/A,DESTINATION,PASS=PASSWORD/K
As you can see, this is the same as UnSquish. In fact, Zup and
UnSquish share a lot of code. I won't bother repeating everything I
said in the UnSquish manual, as Zup works exactly the same as
UnSquish's Shell operation.
The one difference is that Zup can be interrupted by pressing Ctrl-C
during decompression. This is due to a nicety of XPK that XFD doesn't
have.
Zup is pure and may be made resident.
