Short: AfterStep1.0pre2 THE X Window Manager
Type: X11/windowmanagers
Authors: frank@nina.dorknet.com (Frank Fejes)
dan@mango.sfasu.edu (Dan Weeks)
Uploader: cjr6@ukc.ac.uk (Chris Rainbow)
Requirements: XFree68-3.2, Linux/m68k 2.0.x
(1.2.x too maybe, but not tested)
and libXpm-4.7 (available on uni-erlangen)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Extract from original AfterStep1.0pre2 docs:
AfterStep is a continuation of the BowMan window manager which was
originally put together by Bo Yang. BowMan was based on the fvwm
window manager, written by Robert Nation. Fvwm was based on code
from twm. And so on... It is designed to emulate some of the look and
feel of the NEXTSTEP(tm) user interface, while adding useful,
requested, and neat features. The changes which comprise AfterStep's
personality were originally part of BowMan development, but due to a
desire to move past simple emulation and into a niche as its own valuable
window manager, the current designers decided to change the project name
and move on. BowMan development may continue, but we will no longer be a
part of it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an 'almost-no-changes' version of AfterStep for Linux/m68k with
XFree68-3.2. It may work with other configurations but hasn't been
tested. It works on my A1200 50MHz '030 (no fpu) Linux 2.0.22 with
XFree68-3.2 so it should work for you too ;^)
Contrary to my other X11 releases the source is included with AfterStep.
This is mainly due to the complex install procedure, it's much easier to
type 'make install' than to install it all by hand! ;^) See README.install
for details of how to install AfterStep. If you have any problems at all
then contact me!
Look out for my other X11 binaries for Linux/m68k which are all
available from my homepage (or at least they should be ;^)
Other stuff compiled by myself includes :
Xvt-2.0 - A 'no-frills' reduced memory and size XTerm.
RXvt-2.8 - An improved version of Xvt with pixmap background
loading and other nice gubbins.
AfterStep1.0pre2 - What you've got your hands on now!
Xless-1.7 - An X version of less.
XColors - Displays available colours on your X server
(although i've never got it to display anything!)
XColorSel - A kind of colour selector/mixer.
Anyway, enjoy AfterStep!
Cheers,
- Chris
