1 : Intro
!Triangles will find the angles, internal area and the lengths of sides
for any right angle triangle and allows the calculation of angles,
with full working displayed, using Sine, Cosine and Tangent.
When installed, clicking on the icon bar will display the default
calculations window. Clicking Menu here or over the icon bar icon
allows three more windows to be opened; Sine, Cosine and Tangent.
Windows remain open contemporaneously to allow comparison between
different calculations and diagrams.
Selecting Quit from the icon bar icon closes all windows and removes
!Triangles.
Should you make an error with your input, or in the very unlikely
event of an internal error from Triangles, a fully style guide
compliant error window will appear. The error window can be moved
around the screen so that you can view the Triangles window and find
your error. I find that 'normal' error windows always open over the
part of the screen containing the error, thus preventing you from
examining it!
2 : Default Window (F4)
The default window is for calculating as many angles and sides of the
triangle as possible. It cannot perform miracles so in reality you must
enter a minimum of one angle and a side, or the lengths of two sides
before much can happen.
If more than the minimum details are entered, the validity of the data
is checked. If three sides are entered, it will ensure that a right
angle triangle can exist with the given dimensions, and that the
hypotenuse is the longer side!
NB: Your triangle may be rejected if you enter 'rounded' values since
the checking routine assumes a very high degree of accuracy.
Values for lengths take precedence over angles, so three valid sides
and an impossible angle will result in the valid sides being used to
re-calculate the angles.
Angles equal to or greater than 90░ are not allowed, nor are angles
of 0░ or less.
If only angles are provided it is impossible to determine the length
of the sides or the area of the triangle. The relevant boxes will
display N/A to indicate that the variables are not applicable to the
solution.
3 : Trig Windows Sine (F1), Cosine (F2), Tangent (F3)
These windows allow calculations to be made with the appropriate
trigonometrical function.
Enter the lengths of the appropriate two sides of the triangle, then
click on Calculate. The answer and working out is shown on screen. The
calculations are displayed at each stage of the process so that the
method can be followed.
A scale drawing of the triangle is shown to the right of the calculations
box. The Reset button clears the display.
4 : Formulae (F5)
Brief reminders of the formulae commonly used with right angle triangles.
There is no user input in the Formulae window.
5 : Graph (F6)
This window allows the user to plot either a sine curve, cosine curve,
or both curves, with a choice of degree or radian graduations along
each axis.
By moving the pointer over the graph area the normal pointer changes to a
cross hair. This can be positioned anywhere on the graph and the current
values for x, sine x and cosine x can be read from a display box to the
left of the graph.
6 : Disclaimer
This application is supplied 'as is'. No warranty is made, nor will
any responsibility be accepted for any loss, damage or other problems
whatsoever arising from use of the software.
The application is NOT guaranteed to be 100% bug free although it has
worked without problems whilst being tested on an A5000 and an A4000
using Risc OS 3.1 and 3.11
7 : Known Bugs
Only one, and it's not really a bug. If you enter values for two
sides which result in the third side having a length which includes
very many digits after the decimal point, Triangles will round this to
about 10 decimal places. If you then click on 'Calculate' again,
Triangles may register an error due to the 'rounding up'. You should
not, of course, need to click on 'Calculate' again if you haven't altered
any values, but I suppose you might.
