  1. This directory contains a full copy of Unix V7M Release 2.1, as donated by
  2. Jean Huens. His description of the tape follows:

  4. UnixV7m was distributed by Digital Equipment on a 9 track 800 bpi
  5. magnetic tape (at least that's what we got.)
  6.  
  7. The label on the tape read :
  8.  
  9.    "UNIX/V7M RELEASE 2.1
  10.     800 BPI      10/1/81"
  11. and
  12.    "The contents of this tape
  13.     are distributed to UNIX
  14.     licensees only, subject to
  15.     your software agrements with
  16.     Western Electric Co., Inc."

  19. The tape consists of 8 files described on file 3 :

  24.         2 copies of magtape bootstrap (2 blocks total)
  25.         The standalone bootstrap
  26. File 2:
  27.         A file to console copy program
  28. File 3:

  33.         The program restor
  34. File 6:
  35.         A dump of rp0 (root file system)
  36. File 7:
  37.         Tar format dump of rp2 (/sys - system sources)
  38. File 8:
  39.         Tar format dump of rp3 (/usr - all other sources)

  42. The tape was accompagned by a document on paper describing how to boot
  43. the system. I do not have a copy of that document and cannot find it on
  44. tape, so the rest is from my memory...
  45.  
  46. With the initial bootstrap the boot program was read from tape file 1.
  47.  
  48. Then you could start copy (I do not remember what copy was used for.), 
  49. mkfs, restor and with restor you could
  50. restore the dump on tape file6 to disk.

  91. tape and processor (separate I & D or not).
