  15. About Commander
  16. ---------------
  17. One of the drawbacks of many programs is the lack of a customizable
  18. user interface. Functions, such as ARexx scripting and plug-ins, often
  19. have to be started via file requesters or multi-level menus. This
  20. approach can slow down your workflow - and often hinder your creative
  21. energy.
  22.  
  23. ImageFX, for example, lacks a customizable (or updated) command
  24. interface. When new modules/hooks scripts are added to the program
  25. (home-made, pd, shareware, or commerical) you're required to select
  26. those functions through a file requester or other means. This can slow
  27. down the creative process. Commander is the solution to that problem.

  29. Features
  30. --------
  31. - Can control any program that has an ARexx command set. However, it is
  32.   ONLY available for: ImageFX and there are no plans to develop this
  33.   product further. See ImageFX special features below.

  35. - Commander is currently available for: ImageFX. See special features

  38. - Extensive customization allows the user to design multiple
  39.   interfaces for all kinds of different approaches to working.
  40.   Just about everything is customizable, including: layout, fonts,
  41.   gadgets, colors, images, etc.

  43. - Openable on any public screen. Can be run multiple times on the same
  44.   screen and/or on different screens, each with a different or same GUI.

  46. - Can control more than one application from one GUI.

  48. - GUIs are designed external to the main program. This minimizes memory
  49.   requirements and increases the interface speed.

  51. - Includes useful examples and tutorials to get you started. Example
  52.   files can be modified to meet your needs, or new interfaces can be

  56. ----------------
  57. - Works with any version of ImageFX under WB2.x or higher.

  59. - Full control of ImageFX via it's ARexx command set. Now you can have
  60.   immediate access to all those extra hooks and effects that aren't part
  61.   of the standard ImageFX GUI.

  63. - Commander can start automatically when ImageFX starts. Quitting
  64.   Commander can also quit ImageFX.

  66. - Can be run multiple times on different screens, for multiple
  67.   simultaneous iterations of ImageFX.

  70. What Will Commander Do?
  71. -----------------------
  72. Commander allows you to customize your own GUI for supported
  73. applications, giving you the ability to directly access your favourite
  74. ARexx commands, scripts, and plug-ins in a way that works best for you.

  76. If you use a large screen (1280x1024) you may wish to have numerous
  77. independently movable panels of grouped commands. If you use a smaller
  78. display (640x400) you may prefer to have a page flipping type
  79. interface. Or you may want to have multiple configurations for
  80. different kinds of workflow. Commander can do it all.

  82. What Won't Commander Do?
  83. ------------------------
  84. Commander won't help you to be creative, but it will help your creative
  85. flow by avoiding the hinderance of a cumbersome GUI.
