  34. HISTORY OF THE SOFTWARE

  37. Python was created in the early 1990s by Guido van Rossum at Stichting
  38. Mathematisch Centrum (CWI) in the Netherlands as a successor of a
  39. language called ABC.  Guido is Python's principal author, although it
  40. includes many contributions from others.  The last version released
  41. from CWI was Python 1.2.  In 1995, Guido continued his work on Python
  42. at the Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI) in Reston,
  43. Virginia where he released several versions of the software.  Python
  44. 1.6 was the last of the versions released by CNRI.  In 2000, Guido and
  45. the Python core developement team moved to BeOpen.com to form the
  46. BeOpen PythonLabs team (www.pythonlabs.com).  Python 2.0 is the first
  47. release from PythonLabs.  Thanks to the many outside volunteers who
  48. have worked under Guido's direction to make this release possible.

  60. Individual or Organization ("Licensee") accessing and otherwise using

  62. documentation ("the Software").

  65. Agreement, BeOpen hereby grants Licensee a non-exclusive,

  114. Research Initiatives, having an office at 1895 Preston White Drive,
  115. Reston, VA 20191 ("CNRI"), and the Individual or Organization
  116. ("Licensee") accessing and otherwise using Python 1.6 software in
  117. source or binary form and its associated documentation, as released at
  118. the www.python.org Internet site on September 5, 2000 ("Python 1.6").

  121. hereby grants Licensee a nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide
  122. license to reproduce, analyze, test, perform and/or display publicly,

  124. alone or in any derivative version, provided, however, that CNRI's
  125. License Agreement and CNRI's notice of copyright, i.e., "Copyright (c)
