____________
NEW FEATURES
1. Enhanced notification message options for greater
flexibility in creating the notification message that
is sent with the following features:
a. Multiple notification profiles; this allows different
messages to be sent to different notification lists.
The GroupShield Administrator allows easy configuration
of up to 30 profiles.
b. Each profile can be associated with a specific
GroupShield component. This allows different profiles
for NShield and NWall.
c. Each profile can be associated with a specific
event or disposition. For instance, only notify
when a document is cleaned.
d. Each notification profile can optionally specify a
custom form to be used rather than the standard memo
form. The custom form must be added to the Mail template
database for this feature to work. This provides maximum
flexibility in defining the look and feel of the
notification message.
e. A powerful macro facility has been added for defining
message Subject and Body content. Field values, text
files, rich text fields, document links, notes.ini
variables and OS environment variables may be used
in the notification message.
2. New file attachment scanning statistics are now provided
by NWall and NScan. These are:
a. Total number of notes with attachments
b. Total number of file attachments scanned
c. Total size of all file attachments (in bytes)
d. Number of file attachments that were infected
e. Number of file attachments that were cleaned
3. Added support for alternative log forms for NScan. This
allows NScan logging to be easily separated from other
log documents. Use the NOTES.INI setting GroupShieldLogForm
to set the form name. Note that the form must be present
in the Notes Log database (LOG.NSF).
4. Added Notes macro scanner support for additional Domino
rich text elements such as URLs and design signatures.
5. Latest McAfee virus scanning engine version 3.0.2 has been
included.
6. The maximum file attachment size checking is now performed
only by NWall. NShield and NScan no longer have this
capability. Use NWallMaxFile to use this setting.
7. The portable installer (INSTALL.EXE or AUTOINST.EXE) now
can use either AUTOINST.INI or INSTALL.INI for configuration
information.
________________________________
ISSUES ADDRESSED IN THIS RELEASE
1. Resolved size limitation issue with the quarantine
area database that prevented the database from
exceeding 43MB in size.
2. Resolved a message loop issue with NWall. Occured
when NWall was configured with -U (no updates) and a
corrupted message was processed. The corrupt message
would be periodically reprocessed.
3. Issues surrounding quarantined file attachments
sometimes appearing as cleaned rather than infected
have been resolved.
4. Resolved issues with mail redirection of application
generated mail when the server is not running.
5. Resolved issues with validating hierarchical names
listed in the GroupShieldTrustedSigners setting.
6. Resolved issues with mail notifications that caused
an access violation when using the %From macro with a
sender whose originating domain name was greater than
32 characters.
7. Resolved issues with the background restore job of NWall.
An access violation would sometimes result if an error
occurred during the update of a document to its original
source database.
8. Resolved the issue with the background restore job of
NWall. GroupShield properly handles restoration of the
Form field and the $Info field of a stored form.
9. GroupShield correctly scans infected buttons that
contain a corrupt or very long Button Title CD record.
10. Resolved issues in Design ID (Macro ID) generation
caused by uninitialized (i.e. random) data present
in action button title records.
____________
KNOWN ISSUES
1. IMPORTANT!!! When installing GroupShield on a server
that is running NetShield, the server must be rebooted
after GroupShield is installed. Rebooting is necessary
because NetShield must have the GroupShield temporary
directory excluded from real-time scanning performed by
NetShield.
2. When restoring quarantined documents with a stored form
size greater than 16KB, Notes R3 reports that it cannot
be copied. However, the macro does complete all steps
except the restoration of the stored form.
Workaround: Continue the restoration process until the
document is copied into the source database. Select the
newly restored document in the source database, and invoke
the Tools/Refresh Fields/Selected Documents menu option.
This will copy a new stored form into the document.
3. If GroupShield is installed on a NT 3.51 system where
NetShield is not present, conflicts may occur in some
limited situations when scanning compressed files.
Workaround: To avoid this conflict, McAfee recommends that
you add the string value (type REG_SZ) named "szVSTempDir"
to the following Registry key:
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\McAfee\VirusScan
The data value must reflect the path of the temp directory
specified during the GroupShield installation.
4. NScan may appear to hang when the Quarantine Area or
another database is undergoing a Fixup. Generally, this
occurs after Notes abnormally terminates while accessing
a database. The next time the database is accessed, Notes
will automatically invoke the Fixup process to check and
possibly fix the database.
5. To avoid a replication storm when using the +T option for
NScan, use +W (which limits the scan to only recent
documents) with +T. This provides the benefits of +T
without causing unnecessary replication to occur.
6. If the Notes engine crashes while attempting to process
corrupted documents, you can use the /L option with NScan
to identify which document is generating the crash. This
creates the NSCAN.LOG that will contain the information
necessary to identify and remove the corrupted documents.
7. It is currently not possible to scan Notes R4 databases with
the Notes R3 versions of GroupShield. If attempted, an error
is logged and the database is skipped.
8. If a mail recipient is not valid in GroupShieldNotifyList,
the notification mail message will not be sent and an error
is logged.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Regularly updated lists of frequently asked questions
about McAfee products also are available on McAfee's
BBS, website, and CompuServe and AOL forums.
Q: What options do I use to only scan file attachments?
A: Use the following options to enable file attachment
scanning alone: +A -O -R -Z. GroupShield has four
separate scanners that scan the following:
file attachments, OLE objects, rich text fields, and
stored forms.
Q: When is it desirable to use the /SCAN and /CLEAN options?
A: Use the NScan command-line options /CLEAN and /SCAN to
enable file attachment scanning (+A) and rich-text field
scanning (+R). These options override the options set in
GroupScanOptions and the -A or -R option that appears in
the NOTES.INI. McAfee recommends that you not use the
/CLEAN and /SCAN options if attachment scanning or
rich-text field scanning needs to be disabled.
Q: Can I update GroupShield's data files to detect
new viruses?
A: If you have Internet access, you can download updated
GroupShield data files from the McAfee Web Site, BBS,
or other online resources. To download from the McAfee
Web Site, follow these steps:
1. Go to the McAfee Web Site at http://www.mcafee.com
2. Click on the Download McAfee button in the upper
left hand column or frame.
3. Click Get that DAT! to update DAT files.
4. View the information provided on new DAT files
and downloading.
5. Click on Download this Month's DAT.
6. Data file updates are stored in a compressed form
to reduce transmission time. Unzip the files into
a temporary directory, then copy the files to the
appropriate directory, replacing your old files.
7. Before performing any scans, shut down your
computer, wait a few seconds, and turn it on again.
