  4.    The SmallEiffel Team
  5.    
  6.    The SmallEiffel Team is an informal group of people in the [1]LORIA
  7.    lab of Nancy, France, gathered around the development of new
  8.    compilation techniques for object-oriented languages and their
  9.    implementation in SmallEiffel, The GNU Eiffel compiler. Most of us are
  10.    members of the [2]ECOO research team of the LORIA.

  13.    Dominique COLNET
  14.           Assistant Professor at the University Henri Poincaré of Nancy.
  15.           
  16.    Dominique COLNET is the one who initiated the SmallEiffel project in
  17.    Summer 1994. His goal was to create an inexpensive, bug-free advanced
  18.    Eiffel compiler, unlike those already available on the market.
  19.    He has been the leader of this project as well as its key designer and
  20.    implementator since then. (See the [3]history page for more
  21.    information on the chronology of the SmallEiffel project).

  23.    Suzanne COLLIN
  24.           Assistant Professor at the University Henri Poincaré of Nancy.
  25.           
  26.    Suzanne COLLIN has been working with Dominique from the very
  27.    beginning, taking a major part in conceptual and design discussions
  28.    and decisions.
  29.    Not being a member of the ECOO research team, she also provided the
  30.    invaluable point of view of a user of object-oriented languages
  31.    working in the field of image processing and augmented reality.

  33.    Olivier ZENDRA
  34.           Working on a PhD about the compilation of OO languages
  35.           
  36.    He started working during most of his spare time with Dominique on
  37.    SmallEiffel in late 1994 - early 1995. He had many conceptual and
  38.    technical discussions with Dominique about languages, anchored types,
  39.    ANSI C, garbage collection, etc. and participated to the first
  40.    bootstrap. He also maintains the SmallEiffel Web site. He was able to
  41.    join the ECOO research team in late 1997 and thus is now working
  42.    almost full-time on SmallEiffel.

  47.    Philippe COUCAUD
  48.           Master Thesis about garbage collection in OO languages.
  49.           
  50.    After being a student of Dominique, and in charge of the
  51.    Macintosh-ready versions of SmallEiffel during his free-time since
  52.    1996, Philippe joined the SmallEiffel team of the ECOO research team
  53.    between February and September 1998 for his Master thesis. He worked
  54.    more especially on the garbage collector.
  55.    
  56.    Other contributors
  57.    
  58.    Many people have contributed to SmallEiffel, The GNU Eiffel Compiler.
  59.    
  60.    The first of them, in chronological order, are the computer science
  61.    students of the University Henri Poincaré of Nancy, France. They
  62.    tested and benchmarked it, providing very useful information in the
  63.    early days of SmallEiffel.
  64.    
  65.    Then, many people, either working in computer engineering or computer
  66.    science, or simply users working in various academic and business
  67.    fields, took part in the process of improving SmallEiffel. Since it
  68.    became The GNU Eiffel Compiler, in early 1998, even more people are
  69.    helping its development.

  71.    We want to thanks all these people who help us in this great
  72.    adventure. Althought it is not possible to mention them all, here is a
  73.    short [4]list of the most important contributors.
