  38. Thank you for taking time to evaluate Palindrome Storage Manager
  39. 4.0 the first integrated backup, restore and capacity management software 
  40. for any size LAN. 
  41.  
  42. This Evaluation includes valuable tools and software for evaluating
  43. and demonstrating Palindrome Storage Manager 4.0 NetWare Edition.

  54. Before You Start:
  55. To install Palindrome Storage Manager evaluation software, you must
  56. have a valid serial number. Call one of the following Palindrome
  57. offices to obtain a valid serial number.

  84. Install the Hardware:
  85. Before installing the software, install a supported backup device,
  86. host adapter, and driver software appropriate for your type of
  87. machine.  Also, be sure to install a termination block on the last device in
  88. your SCSI bus.
  89.  
  90. For a list of certified backup devices and host adapters, see the
  91. README.TXT file in PSM4DSK1.ZIP.
  92.  
  93. Workstation/Server Requirements  
  94. - Workstations (at a minimum) must be able to run Windows 3.1 or
  95. 3.11 in enhanced mode (at least a 386SX or greater with 4 Mb RAM).
  96. - Palindrome recommends a 486-based PC with 8 Mb of RAM. 
  97. - Color monitor is recommended but not required.
  98. - The latest versions of NetWare's IPX (or IPXODI) and NETX or
  99. NetWare DOS Requestor (VLM). VLMs are required to access Backup
  100. Director installations on NetWare 4.x servers.
  101. - At least 8 Mb of disk space for the Windows executables and DLLs
  102. and 3 Mb disk space on your SYS: volume for NLMs. 
  103. - Server memory should have at least 3 Mb of available memory and
  104. 1 Mb of memory for each process (backup, restore, and/or utility)
  105. you want to run. Thus, to run one process at a time you need 4 Mb
  106. of RAM; to run three processes concurrently, you need 6 Mb of RAM. 
  107.  
  108. Determine where to install the software:
  109. You can install Storage Manager on any NetWare 3.11, 3.12, 4.02, or
  110. 4.1 server.
  111.  
  112. To ensure your servers are running the most recent NetWare modules
  113. and backup agents (called Target Service Agents or TSAs) are copied
  114. to your server, you must run SETUP.NLM on each server you are
  115. backing up. 
  116.  
  117. SETUP.NLM automatically copies Palindrome NCF files, updated TSAs,
  118. and NetWare modules to each server you are backing up. You should
  119. run SETUP.NLM on all servers that you want to back up prior to
  120. installing Storage Manager software.
  121.  
  122. Create Server Preparation Diskettes:
  123. Before running SETUP.NLM, you must copy the contents of the
  124. PREP1.ZIP and PREP2.ZIP onto two blank formatted floppy disks and
  125. then run SETUP.NLM from the diskette at your server.  The directory
  126. structure stored in the zip file must be preserved.

  130. Run SETUP.NLM
  131.  
  132. Insert the first diskette (that you created in the previous steps)
  133. into the local drive of your server.
  134.  
  135. At the server console, type:
  136. LOAD A:SETUP
  137. (where A: is the drive your diskette is in.)
  138.  
  139. If necessary, down the server(s) to ensure any modules that were
  140. updated are loaded on the server(s). If you do not need to down the
  141. server, run PALSTART.NCF on the server(s). 
  142.  
  143. At the server console prompt type:
  144.  
  145. PALSTART 
  146.  
  147. PALSTART.NCF contains statements to automatically load required
  148. files such as your device driver, Palindrome NLMs, and Target
  149. Service Agents. SETUP.NLM copies PALSTART.NCF to the SYS:\SYSTEM
  150. directory of each server that you run SETUP.NLM on.
  151.  
  152. Create the Auto Login User:
  153. To access servers and the Storage Manager job queue, Storage Manager
  154. relies on an auto login user (a user you define or that is
  155. already defined on the network). Using a single auto login user to
  156. attach to remote servers provides maximum security for backup and
  157. restore operations.
  158.  
  159. Auto Login User Requirements:
  160. During installation of the software, you will be prompted to
  161. specify a single auto login user (either as a Bindery user or as an
  162. NDS user) that is stored in the Storage Manager System Control
  163. Database. If the auto login user doesn't exist on those servers (or
  164. in the NDS tree), the program prompts you to specify a user and
  165. password to access those resources when you attempt to configure
  166. the resources for backup operations.
  167.  
  168. During installation of the software the user installing the
  169. software displays as the auto login user name. You can use this
  170. user or any other existing user that has supervisor-equivalent
  171. rights to each server you want to back up. 
  172.  
  173. Rights:
  174. In NetWare 3.x environments, the auto login user must exist on
  175. every server and have supervisor-equivalent rights.
  176. In NetWare 4.x environments, the user only needs to exist once in
  177. the tree and should have supervisor object rights to each server
  178. object you want to back up and to the container that the
  179. installation server is in.<$&AUTO[v]>
  180.  
  181. *Do not limit concurrent connections for the auto login user. 
  182.  
  183. Install the Software:
  184. Load PALLOADR on the installation server
  185. PALLOADR.NLM allows Storage Manager to automatically load other
  186. Palindrome NLMs while running the install program from a Windows
  187. workstation. PALLOADR is copied to your installation server when
  188. you run SETUP.NLM.
  189.  
  190. If you have already loaded PALSTART.NCF, PALLOADR should already be
  191. loaded and you can skip this step.
  192.  
  193. From the server console prompt of your installation server, type:
  194. LOAD PALLOADR
  195.  
  196. Log in to the network as a supervisor-equivalent user (must have
  197. rights to create directories and users). In a 4.x environment, the
  198. user installing the software must have write rights to all
  199. properties of the root object and supervisor object rights to the
  200. container the installation server is in. 
  201.  
  202. Be sure you have a drive mapped to the volume where you will
  203. install Storage Manager.
  204.  
  205. Create Workstation Installation Diskettes:
  206. The client portion of Storage Manager 4.0 can be installed from
  207. floppy disks or by unziping PSM4DSK1, PSM4DSK2, PSM4DSK3 and
  208. PSM4DKS4 to a common directory.
  209.  
  210. At a workstation, run Windows.
  211. Open the File menu and select Run. In the command line text box,
  212. type:  A:SETUP.EXE
  213. (where A: is the drive where the Evaluation software is located).
  214.  
  215. Follow the instructions on screen. 
  216.  
  217. NOTE:  If you are currently using Palindrome software, do not
  218. upgrade your installation with the evaluation version of the
  219. software. Choose a directory other than your current installation
  220. directory when prompted.
  221.  
  222. At the end of the installation program, you will be asked whether
  223. or not to add the installation server to the Protected Resource
  224. List. Choose OK.
  225.  
  226. To run your first backup immediately, choose YES when prompted.
