CPC NOW!
So,what's this? CPC NOW! is the first fanzine to be reviewed in our
regular fanzine review coloum.(we have'nt thought of a name let)
Hands up if you have heard of fanzine called CPC NOW!.In fact, you
should.Why? Well,besides runing a fanzine,the editor (James Hockney)
also runs a hardware/software company.(which,strangly enough,also
called CPC Now!
CPC Now!is an all round Zine like AA.In fact everything to do with
the CPC is covered.
The current issue is number 4,and has been out for a while.
Like I said earlier CPCNow! is an all round 'zine, but it mainly
deals in games.
Issue 4 contains reviews of Super Cauldron,Epyx World Of
Sports,Wreastle Maina, and the Foot Pedal. For all you serious
chaps,there's a review of Campursoft's Proprint Protext enhancer,a
review of the Citizen 120D plus, and an interview with G.V.L
Mircoform.There is also a letters page,a fanzine review,a adventure
coloum,PD page,competition,and lots more.
CPC Now! is a cut and paste jobbie. This means that the text is
pasted onto the page, rather than laying it out on a DTP package.
The text is easy to read, but on some pages, the text ends very
close to the bottem of the the page, and on some, the text disappears
conpletely! Oh dear.
One problem is that CPC Now! is not stapled together. This will be
alright if CPCN! was a freeware fanzine (this means you can photocopy
it and give away copys),but there's nothing about it being one.
There is also another problem with CPC Now! This affects the
contents. The letters page starts on page 5,but disappears, and the rest
is at the bottem of the cheat Pro page! It's all very confusing!
And the PD section lets down CPC NOW!.It starts with a review of a
game, but there's no title! The game could be anything at all!
Oh,there are no intros for many of the articles in CPCNow! either.
The fanzine review is of none other than the excellent WACCI (look
out for review and feature!).
There is also a second interview. This one is an interview with the
ex-editor of AA,Tim Norris.
The good thing about CPC Now! is that they have a super
store, where you can get things from old issues of AA,CPC computing and
printer ribbons, right up to brand new 464plus and GX4000 systems.
Another useful feature in the 'zine is a list of computer shows
and marts.
CPC Now! contains some adverts. This is not a bad idea,so long as
there are not too many.
The quality of the articals themselves are quite good and there is
little spehling mistoookess
Overall,it's not too bad.The text is easy to read, but it does
go off the page in some places, and there is not many intros for the
articals, but if you like games,PD and serious stuff, then it might be
worth buying, but then again,it does'nt have much info to suite PD and
serious users,so you would be better off with WACCI,Artifical
Intellagence,or (I have to say this) us.AW
Overall: 59% Price Details
