Not content with self-appointing himself defender of CROWN, Reichsfuhrer ANTITEC
has thrust himself forward, in a putsch of the Brown pants, to proclaim that he
is the sole spokesman for the SCENE. We publish here a tract from MEINE SCENE to
expose you to his opinion. He claims a right to an opinion which then denies the
rights of others to have an opinion and calls them Fascists! Yeah! Right on boy!
While others attempt a union of CPC users, he seems determined to widen the gap.
Our thanks go to JUGGLER, good lad, for passing on this article from TM-On line.

This article is one of the really fewest serious articles I've ever written so,
please, think carefully about the things I'll say in the following paragraphs.
I will start by saying a very important and wise phrase of the ancient Greek
philosophers: "Smattering is worse than illiteracy". Why do I say that ?
Every event, every fact, every thing which generally takes place in the book of
history, has two sides. Some people are bored to examine both sides, they just
keep taking turns in their aimless circle. I don't know if you understand the
meaning of this phrase, I can't give you the exact translation (use your imagin-
ation if there is any left).
Those people choose one side and then they decide to keep decimating the other
one. Let's give a point to the things I said above. Eliot, in ATM#2, stated a
thing which we all know, that the CPC users are devided into two categories:
The simple users who use their CPC for serious applications, who don't have any
programming skills or graphic skills or any other creative ability (why do I
always put aside the musicians?).
On the other side are the people of the scene, the demomakers. The difference is
that the demomakers use their CPC only for their fun (and don't tell me that
some people make demos because they get paid or they are forced to). A demomaker
started as a simple user who decided to learn his machine better, who decided to
create things with his CPC and not just using it for serious applications or
playing games.
The sceners call the simple users 'lamers'. I can't disagree with that. When I
was a simple user, I was watching demos and I was saying "OK, it's nice but what
can I do with that? I can't use it, it's not a game, it's not a utility so I'll
throw it away". The reason I said that was because I was a "lamer", a simple
user, a CONSUMER.
And that's the REAL difference between the sceners and the simple users. The
simple users are just consumers, they can't appreciate things and since demos
can't be "consumed" they'll throw them away.
I'll give you a small hypothetical example to understand what I mean. Let's say
that you are an insignificant music composer. You compose a music and you ask
the opinion of 1000 people. They say "this is shit, throw it away". Then you ask
the opinion of a musician like Mozart and he says "hey, this music is nice". I
ask you: Whose opinion counts for you, the opinion of 1000 people or the opinion
of a man who is more important than those 1000 people?
To attach this example with the situation of the scene let's say that you are a
demomaker and you make a demo. You ask the opinion of 100 "lamers" and they say
that the thing you made is worthless. Then you ask guys like Antoine or Face
Hugger and they say "this demo is really cool". What I am trying to say is that
I don't give a fuck if some people who can't understand demos don't give a damn
about them but if a guy like Elmsoft or any other demomaker will give 5 minutes
of his time to watch my demo then I will be trully satisfied.
To clear up the things: The people who don't appreciate demos, are the people
who CAN'T make demos! The thing that causes this "ignorance" of the "lamers" for
demos is that the "lamers" can't understand the meaning of the demo. The "lamers"
also can't understand the meaning of the scene. The scene is consisted of an
unknown number of creative people who produce software (demos mainly) for the
CPC just for their personal pleasure.
To be a member of the scene, you need only one thing: You have to be creative.
There are many ways to be creative, you can become a musician, a coder, a
graphist etc. When you enter to the scene, you get a name, you become someone
special. People start to know you for your productions and if your productions
are good, then you become more famous.
In the scene there are no limits, there is no control. FREEDOM is the meaning of
the scene and freedom is the big advantage of it. Everyone can write whatever he
wants in his demos or discmags without worrying about P.M.R.C. and other kind of
fascistic bullshit.
The latest thing I've seen is that some people are trying to organise in their
"own way" the scene. Whoever tries to set some standards, to put some rules on
the scene, for me is a FASCIST. In the scene we are all equal, no one can decide
about the others. Everyone is able to judge the things for himself, we don't
need protectors, leaders or instructors. We don't need any guidance. The scene
is only for fun, not for money. Every member of the scene decided to become a
member of it because he likes using his CPC for fun and only for fun! The scene
is ONLY FOR FUN!
Now about the demos. In the first years of the scene there was a big competition
among the demomakers which made them produce better and better demos with new
effects. There was a challenge, everyone was trying to become the best. The
"lamers" couldn't and still can't understand this challenge. The challenge of
the best musician, the best coder or the best graphist. Demos are pieces of art,
they are like paintings: You just watch them. Don't tell me that paintings are
worthless too! Everyone tries to show his talent through demos, we all try to
improve our abilities so that our demo will be appreciated by other demomakers.
Except the competition, the demomakers make demos to send messages through them,
they are a mean of communication for the sceners. You make many friends through
demos, you meet people in meetings of demomakers. If you can't understand the
pleasure of the demomaking then don't bother with it, leave it as it is! Why are
some people trying to make the demomakers stop making demos? Why so much fascism
in the scene ?
To tell the truth, this fascism doesn't come from the people of the scene, but
from people who are not members of it and who can't understand the scene and its
fun.
Do you remember what I said in the second paragraph? Let me explain to you why I
said it: The users who can't understand the meaning of the scene, are trying to
change it by saying that demos are useless and the whole concept generally of
the scene is worthless. My opinion is that the two sides of the CPC users (the
"lamers" and the sceners) should leave its other alone. If we try to link those
two sides, we will have either to turn the demomakers into simple users (or
coders who will have to work for simple users) or to turn the simple users into
skilled programmers.
We can't say that it was blue when the blood was red, we have to face the truth.
CPC is a dwarf infront of a PC. So, instead of throwing it in the garbage we
decided to use it in a different computing way: We can make demos with it!
I believe that a CPC "lamer" has no difference from a PC "lamer", they both use
their computer like they use a pocket calculator. I want to use my CPC for fun
and I don't want to change that. I make demos and my discmag only for fun, FUN
FUN FUN! I don't want to turn myself into a serious programmer and if one day I
decide to do that, I will use a PC and not my CPC.
I am not saying that I am against of making utilities or games, I am just saying
that we shouldn't stop making demos. Because if we stop making demos then the
scene will lose it's fun.
Although the scene looks smaller than the previous years, the knowledge level is
higher. We don't see lame mini-demos like we used to during the period of 1988-
1995. Many demomakers know that your demo has to show new effects in order to be
appreciated by other demomakers. That's one reason why many demomakers quit the
scene, they can't keep up with the high standards. But, from the other hand, we
see some trully EXCELLENT demos with amazing effects and new ideas.
The demomakers' code level is very high, they can easily use samples and digit-
ized graphics in their productions. The problem with the scene is, as Juggler
said in Ovation#4 (a little advertisement is not bad, is it?), that many sceners
don't have enough time to spend with their CPC, they grow up and they have more
importants things in their life like university, job or the army. That's another
reason why the demomakers leave the scene.
Another problem is that there is no competition today, that's why we don't see
many demos nowadays. If you want to improve the scene, then bring back the
challenge which was lost a few years ago and then you will see more demos with
new effects, you will see more meetings, you will see new games by sceners, you
will see some old demomakers coming back to the CPC and generally since there
will be more action in the scene, more discmags will appear. The problem with
discmags is that since the scene is almost dead, the editors don't have many
things to write about! (Witness OVATION #4 - Ed)
Now we reached to the other thing I wanted to talk about. Some people say that
the discmags of the scene are not interesting for the CPC users. I will add that
the discmag of the "lamers" are not interesting for the people of the scene! OK,
you don't care about scene news, demos (you think they are useless), you don't
care about meeting reports. Who told you that WE care ( at least the Greek
sceners) about what happens to WACCI? We don't give a shit if someone wiped his
ass with WACCI or if someone pissed in a corner of the WACCI HQ or if PROTEXT is
better than other word processors etc.
-> I don't have anything personal with WACCI, I just use it for an example. <-
I have two issues of WACCI and I only read 2 or 3 pages. I bet that the same
counts for my discmag with other people. What I am saying is that the two sides
think and act differentely. We can't force people to stop being themselves and
start acting as we want them to act. So, leave everyone in peace!
And a last thing about discmags. My opinion is that a good presentation counts
for 50% of the whole discmag. Some people say that it's only the contents that
count. That's totally wrong. Your food may be good but you have to serve it on
a decent plate.
LAST VITAL MESSAGES: Try to keep the high standards of the scene's productions
and remember: DON'T TAKE LIFE TOO SERIOUSLY, YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE AND YOU CAN'T
MISS ALL THE FUN! Unfortunately, this world is so fucked up that some people try
to make simple things more complicated due to stupid fucking prejudice or
personal benefits. Instead of having one international language so that we
could all do simple things like COMMUNICATE, we have to learn 3 or 4 languages.
We are not Supermen. What I am trying to say is sorry for my spelling or
grammatical mistakes...

Well there it is, decide for yourself if ANTITEC has proved a point, or has just
pissed into the wind. Being one of the supposed Fascists alluded to, ANTITEC can
have an opinion and others can't according to him, I decided to publish his bit.
No "thought police" here ANTITEC. Freedom reigns. I've aired your views, and you
will have to live with the consequences boy.
I could rip into the article and point out half a dozen glaring inconsistancies,
but why bother? His full name and address is:-
Petros Agrafiotis, Perdika 108, GR-54453 Thessaloniki, Greece.
He is about 18 years of age, a self confessed voyeur and porn disseminator.
Write to him, not me, if you feel a response is warranted.
We can take it that ANTITEC didn't particularly appreciate the OVATION review in
ATM#2 and thought this retaliatory article might rile us. Tough titty ANTITEC! A
termite is incapable of riling an elephant.
"Everyone can write whatever he wants in his demos or discmags without
worrying about P.M.R.C. and other kind of fascistic bullshit."
Yes ANTITEC, unless YOU disagree with it!
