At a final angry assembly the remaining four boys decide to
confront Jack and demand the return of the glasses.
There is an angry confrontation between Ralph and Jack at
Castle Rock and Jack commands his tribe to capture Sam and
Eric.
Roger levers down a huge boulder which smashes the conch and
sweeps Piggy to his death.

CHAPTER TWELVE
Ralph arms himself with a spear (the stick from the pig's
skull) and steals back towards Castle Rock.
Finding the twins on guard he finds out Jack's intentions of
hunting him and they also utter the ominous words. Roger
sharpened a stick at both ends.
Ralph hides in a thicket overnight but is woken by sounds of
the hunt beginning. The twins have been tortured into giving
away his position.
First Jack orders boulders rolled into the thicket but Ralph
survives this.

Next Jack commands the forest set on fire and Ralph finds
himself running for his life.
Desperately he fights and runs trying to think of a plan.
Finally he runs in terror onto the beach where he falls
exhausted expecting his own imminent death.
To his surprise he has fallen at the feet of a naval officer.
Rescue has arrived in the form of a cruiser attracted by the
smoke of the fire which is consuming the whole island.
Ralph breaks down and cries as he realises his ordeal is over.
