MICROBEE TO AMSTRAD CONNECTION Part 2

This is a continuation of the artical in the Catcher July 87. My work mate
with his Amstrad CPC 6128 was able to transfer data and programs from by
Microbee 3.5" disks to his 3" disks by pluging in his 3" drive as my B:
drive and using SETDISK. All has gone very well but very nessy as I had to
dissasemble my drives box each time. I have since fitted a 5.25" 40 Track
drive (from the club) to my twin 3.5" 128k Premium 'Bee. My mate also
purchaced a 5.25" 40 Track drive and wired it in as B: drive. Using PC-ALIEN
on the IBM at work he was able to transfer Multiplan data etc. from his
Amstrad to IBM. I was able to transfer data/programs, using SETDISK, now
with ease. An artical appeared in the Aust. Electronic Monthly Oct '87 that
allows him to access a double sided Amstrad disk. He aquired this system and
all went well. Now he had 3 different types of disk formats to cope with but
I could only read/write to one of them.
Using Mark Bishop's artical in Catcher V4 No5 Feb '86 p7 and many frus
trating hours I was successful in writing the necessary SETDISK data to read
all 3 Amstrad formats, called SYSTEM, DATA and Double Sided DATA. Type the
following data into your SETDISK.WST file (using WordStar in Non-document
mode or save from Simply Write as a Text file) :-

Using the above, I could read and write to any of the formats that his
Amstrad was able to produce. Not satisfied with this, I also wanted to be
able to format the various types of disks. Along came John Slater's program
(and source) FORMATS.COM which originated from a disassembled FORMAT80.COM.
All I had to do was basically remove the Microbee data and substitute
Amstrad data into the source code and re-assemble with M80/L80. This was
done and proved to be successful. Now I can not only read and write to 5.25"
Amstrad disk of any format, but also format them. All of the above can be
found in a file called AMSTRAD.LBR on the MBUG Bulletin Board.
