File: UNARC.MSG
Subject: Release Message for UNARC Program
Version: 1.2
Date: June 24, 1986
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Announcing version 1.2 of the CP/M UNARC utility:
* Provides an alternate version for use on non-Z80 systems. Now all CP/M
users can access archive files! (See note below.)
* Provides wheel byte support for easier use by RCPM sysops (see note).
* Aligns file types in directory listing for improved readability.
* Permits processing of "self-unpacking" archives (e.g. MS-DOS ARC512.COM).
* Attempts to recover from "invalid archive file format" errors in a manner
compatible with MS-DOS ARC 5.12.
The following files are distributed with this release:
Filename.Typ Size Recs CRCK CHEK Description
------------ ---- ---- ---- ---- -----------
1 UNARC .MSG 3k 23 Release message (this file)
2 UNARC .COM 4k 32 C209 C042 Program (Z80 version)
3 UNARCA .COM 5k 37 DF9B 4619 Program (8080/8085 version)
4 UNARC .DOC 25k 194 FDA7 FB5E User documentation
5 UNARC .FOR 1k 4 13FA 4C03 Brief "what's for" abstract
6 UNARC .INF 22k 173 E6CA 7691 Technical information
7 UNARC .Z80 94k 752 DD79 1F2C Source program
These files will normally be distributed in (possibly) squeezed form, within a
library file, UNARC12.LBR. (The CRCK and CHEK values shown above apply to the
UNsqueezed versions of these files, however.) Item 5 may be used to provide a
requested program description after uploading UNARC12.LBR to a remote system.
Items 6 and 7 are provided for programmers and advanced users; these may be
deleted from the released library for distribution to non-technical users.
NOTE
8080/8085 USERS: The file UNARCA.COM is an alternate version
of the program which will run on your systems. However, it is
larger and substantially slower than the standard (Z80-only)
version, UNARC.COM. (UNARCA.COM will run on ALL CP/M systems,
but it is NOT recommended for users with Z80's!)
RCPM SYSOPS: UNARC now supports a wheel byte, eliminating the
need to maintain separate copies of the program for sysop and
remote use. Just patch your wheel byte address into locations
10AH-10BH. Alternately, if you don't implement a wheel byte,
patch a zero in location 106H to create a secure version for
remote use. Additional details are contained in UNARC.INF.
The UNARC.DOC file provides a complete program description and user operating
instructions. Refer to the notice in that file regarding rights of use and
distribution of this program and its associated documentation files.
