RENAME is a file renaming utility that accepts ambiguos file
references.
Syntax :-
RENAME { {d:}afn1 afn2 }
Where afn1 and afn2 are file names that may be ambiguos and d is
the name of a drive.
RENAME without any parameters will give a minimal definition of what
it does. Otherwise rename will find all files matching the first
file reference, check that renaming the files will cause no
problems and then renames the files using the second file reference
as a template for the destination names. Eg. RENAME *.* *.S?
would rename TEMP.DOC to TEMP.SO and FRED.C would become FRED.S
RENAME checks all files to be renamed before renaming any files. If
an error is detected during this process the error is reported and
rename terminated (only the first error to be detected is
reported).
RENAME displays the names of the files as they are being renamed.
