* OVERVIEW
PCX View is a VDC interlace viewer for PCX format pictures. PCX
files are created with PC Paintbrush by ZSoft for DOS, Windows or
any other compatible software. Currently only 2 color (1 bit)
images are supported. If you try to view 16 or 256 color PCX files
then PCXVIEW displays an error message.
* USING PCXVIEW.COM
Viewing a PCX file is quite simple. Just use the following calling
convention: PCXVIEW FILENAME where FILENAME is the PCX file without
the .PCX extension. After the header is read PCXVIEW will either
display information about the file or a error message. If no
errors occurred then you can press [RETURN] to view the PCX. A
short delay will occur before the PCX file is displayed. This is
caused by saving the VDC character sets and reading the encoded PCX
data into a buffer. Once you are finished viewing the PCX file
press [RETURN] to exit. Another short delay is caused by the
character sets being restored. If you get a error message then
exit the program by pressing [RETURN].
* HINTS ON CONVERTING PCX FILES FOR THE VDC
You can scale PCX images created on a IBM with EGA or VGA to look
right on the VDC in 640 X 200 mode. For 640 X 480 images decrease
(-) the length (Y axis) by 60%. This will result in images that
are 640 X 192. For 640 X 400 images decrease the length by 50%.
This will result in images that are 640 X 200. 640 X 200 CGA
images work fine without scaling.
* REQUIREMENTS
+ A C128 or C128D running CP/M 3.0, ZP/M, ZCPR3 or compatible OS
+ At least one 1541, 1541 compatible or better disk drive
+ 80 column monitor capable of interlace 640 X 200 displays
