FORMAT EXECUTIVE - IBM Version 4.0
Read/Write IBM Disks
Universal CP/M Version
Copyright 1990 Powersoft/G.Reno
FE-IBM will allow any CP/M machine with
a Z80 CPU running CP/M 2.0 or higher to
be able to read and write any of the
following MSDOS disk types with the
appropriate drive hardware:
DRIVE SIZE TRACKS SIDES SEC/TRK SECTOR
5.25 160k 40 1 8 512
5.25 320k 40 2 8 512
5.25 180k 40 1 9 512
5.25 360k 40 2 9 512
5.25 200k 40 1 10 512
5.25 400k 40 2 10 512
3.5 720k 80 2 9 512
Special Note for C128 CP/M Systems:
If you plan to use the 1581 3.5" drive
you must run the utility FIX1581.COM
prior to using this drive since there
is an error in the drive ROM. If you
forget the drive will hang the system.
FE-IBM will transfer any type of CP/M or
MSDOS file with NO limitation on the
file size other than the space available
on the destination media. (Shareware
Demo limited to 2K file lengths.)
HOW TO INSTALL YOUR PROGRAM:
To use FE-IBM you must first install it
for the type of system you are using by
running the program FEINSTAL.
You must indicate whether your system is
a C128 CP/M system since there are some
differences in the C128 system.
Your system must be able to read at
least some of the following general
types of DOUBLE DENSITY disks:
DRIVE TRACKS SEC/TRK SECTOR
5.25 40 8 512
5.25 40 9 512
5.25 40 10 512
3.5 80 9 512
Any type which cannot be recognized
should be installed as UNDEFINED.
If your system has double-sided drives
you will need to install the proper
decoding method for each disk type that
your system recognizes. CP/M 3 users
should always install the method as FULL
CYLINDER (Side 2 Hi Sector Bit). CP/M 2
users should install the appropriate
decoding method from the following
available choices:
0.) UNDEFINED
1.) FULL CYLINDER (Continuous Sector #):
This method is used for all single-
sided disks and by CP/M 2 systems where
the logical tracks encompass sectors on
both sides of the disk.
2.) FULL CYLINDER (Side 2 Hi Sect Bit):
This method is used by all CP/M 3
systems and by CP/M 2 systems where the
logical tracks encompass sectors on both
sides with the sectors on side 2 being
accessed by setting bit 7 of the sector
number.
3.) HALF CYLINDER (Same Sector Numbers):
This method is used by all CP/M 2
systems where the logical tracks start
on side 1 then side 2 is the next track
with the even track numbers being on
side 1 and odd track numbers on side 2.
4.) EXTENDED SURFACE:
This method is used by CP/M 2
systems where the logical tracks run on
side 1 (phys 0-maxtrk) then on side 2
(phys maxtrk-0).
5.) DOUBLE SURFACE:
This method is used by CP/M 2
systems where the logical tracks run on
side 1 (phys 0-maxtrk) then on side 2
(phys 0-maxtrk).
You will also need to indicate whether
you system BIOS works internally with a
0 origin sector number or a 1 origin
sector number.
FEINSTAL will now install the proper
parameters in your FE-IBM file.
Now you may boot up FE-IBM and read and
write MS-DOS disks on your CP/M system.
To access the demo mode just answer
'demo' to the authenticate prompt.
