IMPORTANT NOTE:
Most of the files in this library are "CRUNCHED" rather than
"SQUEEZED." Crunching is a new algorithm for file compression,
more efficient than the older squeezing. Analogous to squeezed
files, crunched files may be spotted at a glance by a 'Z' in the
second position of the filename extent, i.e. FATCAT.CZM is the
crunched version of FATCAT.COM.
We have included Steven Greenberg's UNCR.COM within this library
to aid in uncrunching as uncrunching tools are not yet widely
available. Please note that uncrunching is NOT supported by such
tools as NSWEEP or NULU. So the files must FIRST be extracted
from the library, and only then uncrunched with UNCR.COM. Wild-
card uncrunching is possible with UNCR; you cannot uncrunch to
different drives or user areas, however. Syntax is simply
UNCR *.*
Files will go to same DU:. For more information about crunching
you are referred to Greenberg's CRUNCH11.LBR.
Note to SYSOPS: We have included this file and VERS24.UPD uncrunched
so they may be read on-line. The other uncrunched files would have
been expanded by crunching. Crunching the files has resulted in an
8K improvement for this library over a squeezed version, AFTER
including UNCR.COM and the unsqueezed files.
---------------
FATCAT must be both INSTALLED and CONFIGURED before using. For
INSTALLATION instructions see APPENDIX.A. For CONFIGURATION
instructions see APPENDIX.B. Omission of one or both of these
has been responsible for most of the problems people have had
getting going with FATCAT. Remember: When all else fails, read
the directions.
To print out the documentation in this library, use Mailmerge
on the file FATCAT.MMG

FATCAT24.LBR
THE GOOD NEWS IS:
ALL CATALOG and INDEX files (.LIX, .RIX, .DNX, .LCX, .RCX, and
.TCX) from previous versions of FATCAT ARE PERFECTLY COMPATIBLE
with version 2.4, so there is no need to do anything with your
actual data files, they will work just fine under either version.
HOWEVER
BE FOREWARNED:
NONE of the PROGRAM files in previous versions of FATCAT (those
with file types of .COM, .CHN, .00?) or the CONFIGURATION Files
(.CFG) are compatible with version 2.4. (Actually the
configuration or .CFG files used with vers. 2.3 [but not earlier
versions] will work with vers. 2.4). To avoid needless
confusion, you should make sure you have backed these files up
onto an archival disk, and then GET THEM OFF YOUR SYSTEM. They
will not work with the version 2.3 files, even though some of
them have the same names and can only cause trouble.
For a complete listing of the new features of FATCAT24 please
see the file VERS24.UPD in this library.

For a complete listing of the new features of versions 2.0
through 2.3, please see the file VERS24.UPD in this library.
The only difference between version 21 and version 22 was in the
documentation.
