The following is the pin assignment for a cable to connect
a double density, double sided, 48 track-per-inch drive, such
as a Tandon TM100-2A, Teac FD55-B, &tc. to the Bondwell 2 OR
the Bondwell 8 computer. *Note: The BW-8's bios will already
deal with this drive. The BW-2, however, requires a modified
bios. Additionally, you will need a modified Format.com
program in order to format the drive on the BW-2. This is
because the 2's internal drive, although the same capacity as
a DSDD-48tpi drive, has all 80 (used) tracks on a single
side. You therefore need software which tells the drive to
switch to the second head when track 40+ is used. You should
be able to pick up a good drive for around $85, and cases
(with power supply!) start from about $15. You will need
an external supply for the 5 1/4" drive, unlike the 3 1/2".
Check this board for bios patches and a new format routine, as
I hope to have something worked out soon.
* Application note: Since this project requires a modified bios,
you will likely not be able to run other bios specific software
and hardware. The ramdisk, for instance, boots its own bios
from firmware!
