  1. THE CRYNWR PACKET DRIVER COLLECTION
  2.  
  3. Packet drivers are small interface programs between IBM PC (and
  4. compatible) network hardware and PC applications programs.  They are
  5. similar to device drivers, but with two important differences:
  6.  
  7.   1. They present a standardized interface to the application,
  8.      independent of the particular network board.
  9.   2. They can be used by more than one application at once.
  10.  
  11. The packet driver specification was developed and made public by FTP
  12. Software Inc, and the effort to develop and distribute free (but
  13. copyright) packet driver software is led by Russ Nelson, formerly of
  14. Clarkson University, now of Crynwr Software.
  15.  
  16. Packet driver software and documentation may be ftp'd from Columbia
  17. University host kermit.columbia.edu, directory packet-drivers and its
  18. subdirectories.  If you don't have ftp access to Columbia University, you
  19. may order packet drivers on diskette by postal mail -- request a catalog
  20. and order form from kermit@columbia.edu or call +1 212 854-3703, or fax +1

  29. The Columbia University packet driver distribution area is organized into
  30. subdirectories as follows:
  31.  
  32.   bin  Individual binaries from current Crynwr packet driver collection.
  33.   doc  General documentation files.
  34.   new  New contributions, not yet added to the Crynwr distribution.
  35.   src  Source code + documentation for individual packet drivers.
  36.   zip  The Crynwr packet driver collection in .ZIP format.
  37.  
  38. The zip directory contains the latest packet driver releases and related
  39. items.
  40.  
  41. The Crynwr packet driver collection is furnished by Russ Nelson.  Columbia
  42. expresses its thanks to Russ on behalf of the world's packet-driver users
  43. for this valuable collection of software.

  45. NOTE: Packet drivers are also available from network adapter vendors such
  46. as Cabletron.  These drivers cannot be distributed publicly.  Contact your
  47. vendor or your network manager for further information.
