  4.            NPS Modifications for KERMIT Installation

  7.     The primary communication requirements for KERMIT operation
  8.     are that async lines on the DATANET pass all printable ASCII
  9.     characters (as spececified in the KERMIT protocol manual) and
  10.     the CTL-A (SOH) character be passed to Time Sharing.  As released
  11.     NPS does not support these requirements, therefore modifications 
  12.     must be made prior to KERMIT installation.  NPS modules NHMP and
  13.     NTAB must be modified to change the character delete from the
  14.     @ character.  Most sites will use the backspace character.  The
  15.     NPS Software Release Bulletin addresses the required changes in
  16.     Section 18 for the NT4 release.  In the base release the CTL-A (SOH)
  17.     is used as a connect character for a private DAC line.  The SOH
  18.     must be replaced with an alternate control character (ie: CTL-T).
  19.     This modification is made in the module NHMP.  The code to be
  20.     changed resides in the DACSOH locmop.  Any site customization
  21.     which could effect transparency of any ASCII characters or the
  22.     CTL-A character through the DATANET should be reworked prior
  23.     KERMIT installation.
