RECORD TAPE CD VIDEO LIBRARIAN
Custom Database Program
MAIN MENU OPTIONS:
OPTION 1 ..CREATE A NEW FILE
Naming files:
Any valid MS-DOS recognizable name may be used. Name must be up to 8 letters
and be followed by a period and a 3 letter Extension.
Examples: RECORD.FIL TAPE1.FIL JAZZ1.LIB
Devise a system of naming your files that you will easily be able to
remember for future access.
FILE SIZE:
A Librarian file may contain up to 65,535 separate titles. However, that
would require approximately 50 Diskettes for storage.
A Standard 360K Diskette should hold approximately 1,300 titles.
(If you are using a HARD DISK this may be of less concern.)
SPECIFYING DISK DRIVE:
You may specify a Disk Drive other than the A: drive by making the Drive to
which you wish to direct the file .. part of the file name.
Examples: B:RECORD.FIL would place this file on drive B
C:CONCERT.MUS would place this file on your C drive
If no Disk Drive is part of the FILE NAME, your file will be created on
the A drive.
FILE CREATION:
At the time you use Option 1 and give a FILE NAME, that file is immediately
created on the specified disk. As you begin to input data you now begin to
fill the file with information.
RETURNING TO MAIN MENU:
Follow the instructions on the Monitor
OPTION 2 .. DISPLAY A FILE
NAME OF FILE TO DISPLAY:
The name you specify here must be a valid file name created using LIBRARIAN.
If the file exists on a disk other than that in your A drive, you must use
the drive (B:?) as part of the file name. For examples see Option 1.
BAD FILE NAMES:
If you type a bad file name (non-existent) through an input error or type
the name of a file that does not exist, you will be taken back to the main menu.
DISPLAY .. Show entire file on screen:
All the records (entries) in the specified file will be shown on your
Monitor 5 titles per screen. Follow the screen instructions to display the
entire file.
OPTION 3 .. ADD TO AN EXISTING FILE
NAME OF FILE TO ADD TO:
Follow the File naming guidelines outlined in OPTION 2.
BAD FILE NAMES:
If you type a Bad File Name (non-existant) through an input error or type the
name of a file that does not exist on the specified disk, you will be taken
back to the Main Menu.
TO END AN ADDING SESSION:
Follow the screen instructions to return to Main Menu
OPTION 4 .. EDIT ITEMS WITHIN A FILE
NAME OF FILE TO EDIT:
Follow the File Naming guidelines outlined in OPTION 2.
BAD FILE NAMES:
If you type a Bad File Name (non-existant) through an input error or type the
name of a file that does not exist on the specified disk, you will be taken
back to the Main Menu.
RECORD NUMBER WHICH YOU WISH TO EDIT:
You must know which record within the file you wish to edit. Determine record
number of specific item by using:
Option 2 (Displaying the items)..making note of the record number you wish to
change. or
Option 8 (Print a file)..using the printout to identify the appropriate record
numbers to edit.
TO END EDITING SESSION:
Follow screen instructions to return to Main Menu
OPTION 5 .. SEARCH A FILE FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION
SEARCH MENU:
(1) You will choose which field within a file you wish to search.
(2) You will then input the specific data for which you are searching. You may
specify partial words,complete words or as complete a phrase as you wish.
(3) You will then specify the file in which you wish to conduct your search.
DATA MATCHING SEARCH CRITERIA:
Each item containing the specified search criteria will be displayed on the
screen. You may also request a printed list of these items.
TO END SEARCH SESSION:
Follow screen instructions to return to Main Menu.
OPTION 6 .. LIST FILES ON DISK
DOS Operating System must appear on your current Disk Drive in order for this
OPTION to function.
DISK DIRECTORY MENU:
(1) You will choose the Disk Drive for which you wish to display a directory
(List of all files on Disk).
(2) Complete list of all files contained on specified Disk Drive will be
displayed.
TO END DISK DIRECTORY SESSION:
Follow screen instructions to return to Main Menu.
OPTION 7 .. DELETE A FILE
NAME OF FILE TO DELETE:
Any valid file name may be specified. CAUTION: Deleted files cannot be
recovered.
LAST CHANCE MESSAGE: After specifying File to delete, you will be given an
option to abort the delete or accept the file name and the file will be
immediately deleted.
OPTION 8 .. PRINT A FILE
NAME OF FILE TO PRINT:
Any valid file name may be specified.
PRIOR TO PRINTING YOU MUST: Be sure printer is on line & advance paper to
TOP OF PAGE.
Data will display on screen while printing is in progress.
TO END PRINTING SESSION:
Follow screen instructions to return to Main Menu.
OPTION 10 .. EXIT TO DOS
If your DOS Operating System is contained on the disk in your current Disk
Drive, this OPTION will take you to a DOS prompt.
If DOS is not on your current Drive you will return to MENU.
Type EXIT at DOS prompt to return to LIBRARIAN.
