Command Post 6.2E Quickstart Information
Thank you for trying this version of Command Post.
Command Post is a MS Windows shareware application designed to allow users to
easily personalize the MS-DOS Executive control window. Command Post allows
users to easily add Menu and Submenu items to the main MS-DOS Executive menu
bar, and gives them control of their Windows environment. Command Post also
provides file management utilities and a directory tree.
Complete documentation for Command Post is in the file CMDPOST.TXT, but to get
up and running, simply copy the following files from the files created when
you executed CMDP62.EXE of the distribution diskette, or from the un-arc'ed
ARC file to your C:\WINDOWS directory, or any other directory defined
in your DOS PATH statement:
CMDPOST.EXE
CMDLIB.EXE
CMDTREE.EXE
CMDPOST.MNU <---If you are updating from a previous version of
Command Post you may not want to copy this file.
BUT BE SURE TO LOOK AT IT ANYWAY, as it has
come comments that discuss some of the new features.
NOTE: IT IS AN *ABSOLUTE* CERTAINTY that the supplied CMDPOST.MNU file
will not be fully functional on your system. You will need to edit it,
using the notepad editor, to personalize it for your system.
There are also two other files, which are PIF files for running COMMAND.COM
under Windows. If you do not already have a suitable COMMAND.PIF file, then
copy over one of the following files and rename it to COMMAND.PIF.
These two files are:
COMMAND.286 Copy one of these two files and rename it to
COMMAND.386 COMMAND.PIF
While in Windows just doubleclick on CMDPOST.EXE to start Command Post. You
will soon want to modify the LOAD= line in your WIN.INI file so that
Command Post starts anytime you start Windows.
(I know you think the RUN= line would be better, but it simply is not so).
On my system the lines read as follows:
RUN=
LOAD=CMDPOST.EXE
Changes from Version 5.2
(A detailed list of changes from most major versions may be found in
Appendix B of CMDPOST.TXT)
This version of Command Post has a number of new features added to
increase its functionality, plus an amazing number of bug fixes.
New Features, when compared to Command Post 5.2:
1) A directory tree, found under the File menu. By clicking
directories in the tree with the left or right mouse buttons
the file displays in the corresponding Command Post windows
will be updated.
2) File management capabilities. When 2 Command Post windows are
open, the Copy... and Move... items under the file menu will
copy or move the highlighted files to the other Command Post
window.
3) Completely personalizable window title.
New Features, when compared to Command Post 6.1
1) File moves and copies retain original day and date
2) Inability to copy more than 1 file when viewing files in
"Long" format, sorted "By Kind" has been fixed.
3) Tree display fixed. Was especially bad when using the cursor
keys instead of a mouse to operate.
4) Addition option available to supress side by side arrangement
of two Command Post windows.
New Features, when compared to Command Post 6.2A
1) Fixed Move & Copy Out-of-disk-space bug.
2) Fixed obscure bug dealing with iconized tree and the
right mouse button
New features, when compared to Command Post 6.2B
1) Fixed move bug where target file already existed on same drive
(would not move, gave a rename error)
2) Fixed bug where CmdPost window would not iconize if a windowed
oldapp was started.
3) OCR support for ULTRA high res monitors added (2048x1536),
and support improved for LARGE fonts.
4) OCR support added for lowercase fonts.
