  1.                      Tandy 1000 model A Bug Report

  3. Since Tandy appears incapable or unwilling to provide it's users  with 
  4. respectable  support for their computers it is important that we users 
  5. assist each other in the utilization of our machines.  I for one  have 
  6. put  up with Tandy's pathetic support of the Coco for over 4 years but 
  7. was amazed that they would dare to  attempt  the  same  policies  with 
  8. respect  to a machine as popular and powerful as the 1000,  especially 
  9. when one considers that the 1000 is their most popular computer.

  11. As a result of their attitude towards their users I am publishing this 
  12. bug report which I hope will be utilised by the  SIG  to  inform  it's 
  13. members  of bug's,  problems,  and incompatabilities in the new 1000A.  
  14. Please utilize this as an electronic chain letter  and  reuploaded  it 
  15. should  you  add new bugs or,  hopefully,  fixes to the old ones.  The

  45. *  Nature of problem:  GWBASIC vs. 1.01 disables all sound on Tandy  *
  46. *  1000A.  Problem continues after return to DOS.                    *

  50. *  Proposed Solution:  GWBASIC comes up in beep on mode.  Enter      *
  51. *  BEEP OFF:SOUND ON as soon as you enter basic or place those       *
  52. *  commands in a file called INIT.BAS and call GWBASIC with the      *
  53. *  command BASIC INIT.  We need a patch to BASIC.EXE to fix this     *
  54. *  bug once and for all.                                             *

  58. NOTE: Good News! A fix for the above BUG exists. See NOSOUN.FIX in DL5
  59.       of the TRS80PRO SIG, by Rich Leonard. It's a one-byte patch to
  60.       BASIC.EXE and it does the job. ---- Tom Price 2/15/86

  63. NOTE: The fix does work!  Do the fillowing to a COPY of BASIC.EXE:

  66.       DEBUG BASIC.TMP

  70.       RENAME BASIC.TMP BASIC.EXE

  72.       This fix is apparently being delivered to new purchasers of the
  73.       1000A.  Those of us who sent in our registration cards will
  74.       probably be notified of the fix sometime next year!

  79. *  Nature of problem: Wizardry will not recognise it's copyprotected *
  80. *  key disk on a 1000A.  It repeatedly asks the user to insert the   *
  81. *  Wizardry master disk in drive A:.  This problem does not occur    *
  82. *  in the old 1000 and appears to be the result of the new BIOS ROM. *
  83. *  The disk in drive A: does not even turn so the interuppt they are *
  84. *  using to detect the key must not function properly.               *
  85. *  Proposed Solution: None at present - Sir Tech thought it was      *
  86. *  funny that the 1000 was not compatable to the PC.  Tandy does not *
  87. *  sell the product (but then what do they sell?) and so could not   *
  88. *  help (or care!).                                                  *

  95. *  Nature of problem: LPDRVR.SYS supplied with Vsn. 2.11.22 has a    *
  96. *  fault in that its SKIP PERFORATION command, ESC N;n doesn't work. *
  97. *  This makes it impossible to use it for paged listings, etc.       *

  100. *  Proposed Solution: Tandy needs to check this out and correct. So  *
  101. *  far, in my contacts with them, they have denied the problem. "You *
  102. *  must be doing something wrong." If so, they should fix Appendix   *
  103. *  C of the MS-DOS Reference Manual so that it would be very clear   *
  104. *  in instructing the user about LPDRVR.SYS.                         *

  109. *  Model: DigiMouse Board        _X__ Bug   ____ Incompatability     *
  110. *  Nature of problem:  The Digimouse software does not appear to     *
  111. *  or the grphics cursor properly in high res (640X200) mode.        *
  112. *  When used with Microsoft Word or the Life demo (in Microsoft      *
  113. *  Mouse package it does an AND with the cursor that remains until   *
  114. *  the screen is updated.  This can be very annoying in Word.        *
  115. *  Proposed Solution:  Tandy needs to update the Digimouse software  *
  116. *  to be current with Microsoft latest version of the Mouse software *
  117. *  and to provide updates to those of us that purchase our mouse     *
  118. *  from them instead of buying the cheaper (AND SUPPORTED) Microsoft *
  119. *  version.                                                          *
