For a long time it was believed that glassblowing did not start in Scandinavia until the 1550s. However, only a decade ago evidence of 15th-century glassmaking was found in the documents of VadstenaΓÇÖs Bridgittine convent. Researchers started to suspect that window glass had been blown also on other large building sites for churches. However, no concrete evidence has been found. Finds from L├╢d├╢se dating from the 14th century included refuse related to glass-making: glass left at the bottom of a crucible. The glass probably came from a small melting furnace built for the church of a Dominican friary. These new finds change the dating of the beginning of glassblowing in the North to an earlier time than what was believed before.
