In the Netherlands, similar type of Waldglas was produced as in the Rhineland. Of green glasses especially the Berkemeyers and Römers stayed in the selections of Netherlandic glassworks long into the 17th century. In the second half of the 16th century also the tradition of glassmaking à la facon de Venise spread to the Netherlands, especially Antwerp and other towns, with the masters who had moved from Italy. Although glassblowers had been forbidden to move away from Venice on pain of death, many defied the order. Facon de Venise glasses were soon exported from the Netherlands to different parts of Northern Europe.
