For the first time in mankindΓÇÖs history glassmaking became noteworthy in ancient Egypt. The Egyptians had a very different view of glass than people in later ages ΓÇö to them glass objects were jewellery comparable to gems. Although Egyptian glassmakers did not know the technique of glassblowing, over 3000-year-old glasshouses discovered in Tell-el-Amarma tell us about their high level of technical and artistic skill. The most popular glass objects in Egypt were small perfume bottles and flasks used for balm.
