Forest glass, or Waldglas, was mainly produced north of the Alps in Germany, Bohemia and parts of France and Southern England. Forest glass is not quite as pure as the soda glass used in the Mediterranean region, which is why it often had a greenish or brown colour. Instead of soda, potash produced from wood ash was used as an ingredient of forest glass. The ΓÇÿhot-workedΓÇÖ decoration of forest glass was usually slightly less sophisticated than that of soda glass, and normally the vessels made of it were considerably cruder than the finest Venetian ones.
