The invention of glass-blowing just before the Christian Era has undoubtedly been the largest single invention in the history of glassmaking. It is much easier to manipulate glass by blowing than by casting into a mould, and, above all, it offers many more possibilities. Glass can be blown freely or with the help of different moulds. It is easy to create different kinds of surface patterns to mould-blown glass. Blowing glass into the right shape in such a way that it finally becomes a beautiful glass object is not easy, and glassblowing requires great craftsmanship.
