For many centuries the archbishopric of Trondheim included all of Norway, as well as Iceland and Greenland. The ArchbishopΓÇÖs Palace was the centre of the diocese and the masters living in it had an influence not only on religion, but also on politics, economy and culture. Because of this the palace of the archbishop had to incorporate reception rooms, private dwellings, warehouses, a large study, a library and different kinds of workshops. The excavations during 1991-1995 revealed that within the walls of the palace there were several small buildings, which housed at least a mint, an armoury, a cobblerΓÇÖs shop, a glasshouse and a kitchen.
