Filigree glasses were decorated with thin glass threads which were applied to the sides of the vessel. During Renaissance, mostly white trails were used, but in finer vessels also threads combining white and clear glass were employed. Façon de Venise glass vessels became more common in Western and Northern Europe during the second half of the 16th century, and many vessels were blown in Western Europe. However, according to newest research, the finest filigree vessels were brought from Venice itself. Fragments of filigree vessels have been discovered in several north European towns, and the largest amounts are from Stockholm. The glasses are best suited for red wine, which brings out the decoration at its best.
