The Römer is a green-coloured white wine glass, developed from the Krautstrunk, and it has a spherical bowl mounted on a narrower base decorated with applied prunts. The foot-ring of older Römers was a frilled glass thread, but in the 17th century a high foot made from coiled glass trail became more common. Römers were made especially in the Rhineland and the Netherlands. Dozens of bases of Römers were found in the wine cellar of Bergen already in the excavations of 1908. Although shards of Römers have been found all over Northern Europe, they are much rarer than fragments of Passgläser.In the middle of the 17th century Römers developed further into tall-stemmed 'rummers’, decorated with prunts resembling raspberries.
